bsabuzz
Hi everone I just got a 1985 gl station wagon 2wd About a month ago. Lately Its decided to stop idling at its previous high of 1500 rpm!! to its now rpm of 850 to nothing (in about 2 secs flat :-\ ) Ive searched for simple answers Like cleaning the carbs, Checking for vacuum leak (well visually) I dont know Much about the 2bbl carbs and I'm not sure if Adjusting the idle is the correct way to go. Would anyone out there happen to know what I should Do or have any suggestions?? I really love driving around in my Sube' And I figure on keeping as long as it will run . Its got about 189000 miles on it. Also the temp gauge (digital) seems to come and go when it feels like it, I'm never convinced I get an accurate reading. Should I retro fit a temp gauge for this perpose? Heres hoping. BSABUZZ
crazyeric
sounds like what happened to my 85gl a couple years ago, although i sold mine at that point, it ended up being the carb, check your pcv valve and air cleaner and make sure there's no oil in there. If there is you might have to get the carbs cleaned or rebuilt. hope this helped.
northguy
I had a similar problem a bit back. I had some debris in one of the jets that controls the idle speed. Take it apart and clean it thoroughly, if you feel comfortable with carbs.
Snowman
Dealing with the temp gauge issue, I would check the connection to the sending unit. It may be corroded, or just falling off as happened on one of my cars. It screws in right next to the thermostat housing. It's also possible that the wire is partially broken as well, so I'd trace that back a ways and make sure it's in good shape.
