simbey1982 Posted December 7, 2004 Share Posted December 7, 2004 If any of you have been following my posts you may have heard me mention something about the clutch pedal being very stiff. I am i need of some trouble shooting assistance. Basically the clutch works, but it is very stiff compared to any other vehicle or a subaru. Befor the cluctch starts engaing it is very easy to push...once you get to it pushing on the pressure plate, it gets hard to press. The pedal with out a cable travels fine. At first we thought perhaps the cable had a kink in it or something of the sort. So we exchanged it for a new one. The new cable did not help the problem. Adjusting the Clutch doesnt help...it just makes where the stiffness engages higher or lower. Just for a refresher the body is a 97 impreza, tranny is out of 91 legacy, got cable for 94 impreza. Legacy777 Posted December 7, 2004 Share Posted December 7, 2004 What clutch/pressure plate do you have in it? The newer/beefier RS clutches & PP's do fit in the n/a legacy trannies. They will probably have a stiffer pressure plate. The PP was designed to be disengaged with a hydraulic unit rather then cable. So that may be some reasons. Regardless, Subaru's have one of the higher effort clutches I've driven.....I can't say I'm a huge fan for it though. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Im only going by experience on my Nissan,I havent had to replace the Subie's clutch yet so I havent seen the setup,just it was the same symptons I had thats all. Legacy777 Posted December 8, 2004 Share Posted December 8, 2004 To be quite honest I'm not sure, since I haven't dealt with that style clutch much, other then just taking my donor car apart. simbey1982 Posted December 9, 2004 Author Share Posted December 9, 2004 hmm...well it isnt the TO bearing after disscussing it with my friend its not really possible to install backwards....This is just perplexing because the pressure plate, clutch etc are all meant for cable.... if we just use our hands on the clutch fork it doesnt seem too terribly stiff we are still thinking it is something to do with the cable.....but i replaced with a new one with no change....perhaps a spring clip came off the TO bearing and is causing trouble....pressure plate giving up....
