bgambino
hey guys.... I was under the car today and I notice some antifreeze leaking...it appears that the thermostat is under the engine now? as the lower radiator hose seems to connect to what appears to be the thermostat housing...correct? Is the unit above (connected to)the housing the water pump? It seems the leak is coming from the gasket between this and the block. Whats involved in replacing (assuming thats what it is)? With 110K on it, I have to assume the T belts are probably due (are these 50-60k like the loyales?)
tcspeer
Yes you are due timing belt change, I was able to do my 97 Legacy wagon with the help of Haynes manuel. The hardest part for me was getting the crank pully bolt to break loose. The T-stat is there were you thought.
lmdew
Yep, the water pump is leaking (there is a weap hole that you can not see with the pump installed. It results in the leak you described. Do the hoses and belts, T-belt, water pump, cam & crank seal, tighten the oil pump cover screws, and carefully check the pulley bearings and tensionner for wear and indications of failure. Make sure you fully bleed the coolant system when you go back together to get all of the air out. www.1stsubaruparts.com is a good source of parts.
