If you look down the throat of the carburetor and open the throttle, does gas shoot out and down the throat? If so, unlikely to be a gas problem. (BTW, most "won't start" or "runs bad" are ignition related.)
moosens
Take off the fuel line and turn the ignition.Have something to catch the gas in,of course. If you are pumping gas then I'd check fuses, alternator, and voltage regulator. There's a factory manual on eBay right now.I just saw it.It's for 1972 but you'll find the info you need in there. Keep it going!

bajavwnsoobnut
ok talked with him on Yahoo for a bit and this is what I got from him it is a 87 FI Auto and I have a sneeky suspision(sp?) that it's a electrical gremlin involving the notorious automatic neutral interlock so it might just need a relay near the starter to get it to start up with enough juice going to the starter solinoid
DaveAP
If it is the 'neutral safety switch' it is located in the shifter consul. A visual exam will show if it is cracked. It can be bypassed until you find a new one. But be cautioned it will start in gear!
bajavwnsoobnut
well if it's like my old 86 GL wagon it's just that the wireing is getting old and the resistance increases so less juice is let through and I fixed it simply with a relay next to the starter with a wire going to the batt for juice to the starter so when I turn the key it actualy works
moosens
.....sizzle.....Good luck with the '71 Does the '87 turn over at all?
bajavwnsoobnut
Ok just came back from his place it does turn over and has spark and has fuel pressure and I connected the green test connectors in the engine bay right behind the drivers side strut tower and hear fuel being squirted into the throttle body the only code that is coming out of the ECU is 7 short flashes so basicaly 7 and the Chiltons he has only shows double digit codes so I don't know if it ment it's a-ok or if there is a problem so throw it up to you guys about it and oh yeah it's a 2wd 1987 DL wagon auto with SPFI for the info and there is a connector that he pointed out that is clear brown under the dash with a wire coming out of it that looks like a Jerry-rigged setup and the wire goes nowhere

Snowman
You could probably find the entire throttle body assembly at a JY pretty cheap.
bajavwnsoobnut
yep that is the best bet is to goto a JY like U-pull it down on foster
