mtnman38
Can anyone tell me if you can use the rotors and calipers from the front of an 86 gl wagon ea82 for a rear disk brake conversion for my 84 4wd hatch ea81 in theory all I would need is a backing plate from a turbo wagon or am I way off do you think this is possible pm me with details
sportsterbrat
There is a nice write up in the USRM thats what I went by . Works great!
TheSubaruJunkie
You cant use the front rotors and Caliper on the rear unless you fabricate a new bracket for the calipers. The rotor is larger in the rear, and the calipers are alot different. In order to convert your hatch, you'll need the rear rotor, caliper & Backing plate from any 4WD Turbo EA82. -Brian

JWX
hmm maybe somebody swapped them? or maybe it was an option?
baccaruda
could be either. we should know by now that there is no such thing as "only" as far as which cars came with which.
Caboobaroo
the rear discs were an option if they didn't come on a turbo car. You can use the discs from a 2wd EA82 BUT you'll need the 4wd hubs to make it work.

TheSubaruJunkie
Check our Repair Manual. There's an extensive how-to written by me. The swap is very basic and about as bolt-on as you can get. Rear disc's came on a bunch of different EA82 models. Like N/A GL10's, XTs and was an option for any EA82 if requested. Its just that ALL turbo EA82's will have disc brakes. The reason I tell people to look for turbo EA82's cause 100% of them will have rear disc's. If your car is 4WD, you will need 4WD rear disc's. If your car is 2WD, you'll have to get disc's from a FWD only EA82. -Brian
