subyrally
i am starting to think that its just not meant to be, every time i fix something on the rx, something else breaks. now i think i need either a full rebuild or new engine. on top of that, when i was driving home form the garage that i had look at it, i got pulled over for a bad tag light. is it really possible for one person to have this much bad luck and still be alive? this is getting rediculous, i dot havethe time to get it rebuild and i dont have the money to get a nnew engine. i am at a loss, i dont know what to o any more, ive put more time and effort into this car than what it is worth. ive put more moeny into it than its worth. if i had the time or money, i would doa total engine swap, im thinkkng something like the legacy turbo short block with wrx components around it. but that wont be cheap or easy, and thats what i want to put into my impreza. im just very unlucky, even if i could do that, something else would break. mythinks i am beyond screwed. tim c. northguy
Put it aside for a while, go buy a pos Honda and when it breaks down, you'll be happy to work on the subaru again.

subyrally
Put it aside for a while, go buy a pos Honda and when it breaks down, you'll be happy to work on the subaru again. NEVER tell me to drive a honda. i hate hondas sooo much, i am a suby driver through and through. but thanks for the advice. i knew there was something wrong with the engine, but wasn too sure of what it was till today when i had some one runa diagnostic on it. for the price of a new engine for it, i could get a wrx engine. i think ill strip the engine out and do an engine swap. ill try to keep the interior and exterior as close to stock as i can, but im not too sure what will come with time. im feeling something in the neighborhood of overkill. i am going to save my money and start over from scratch. i will do it right this time round. Subarutex
You still never have stated what is wrong. A lot of times are there less exspensive ways to accomplish things.
subyrally
the engine is in need of lots of work. basically, the previos owner of the engine had new heas put on an old block. needs a rebuild or new shortblock. either way, im thinking that is getting to mbe more trouble than its worth. besides, the temp tags expire this week and i cant afford to get it fixed and inspected before the deadline. we are going to take it off the insurance and return the tags this week, unless someone can break out a miracle. otherwise, i will start over on the car.the way i see it, if i have to wait this long , it better be well worth it. needless to say, i think the rings are shot, possibly the pistons. there is oil puking into the intake, extreamly excessive blowby through the valve cover breathers, the standard suby death tick under load, burns oil when ever i am flooring it to get up to speed up a hill, the turbo looses boost due to the oil in the intake. on top of all that, the steering rack blew out on both sides, total domp of all fluids in it. i think the steering pump finally died. the really screwed up part is that i just fixed the heater fan in the car yesterday. unless someone has a new ea82t that i could drop in, i dont think ill get the car on the road again. pitty everyone is out west, save but a few. peace tim c. DrKrazy
Yep Tex is right, but if truly needed-> JDM motors can be had for fairly cheap if your not set on having a rebuilt engine, in the $450-750 range. I feel your pain though man, sometimes nothing can go right, but hold tight things will circle round your way.
WJM
$h!t happens....i spent 6k on the wagon only for it to blow up two engines in short order. thats what happend when you deal with older turbo cars with many ?s about them...oh well.... Caboobaroo
don't worry man, I'm having the SAME bit of luck you are. Bought my RX from the junkyard and they told me it had a bad motor, so I also noticed it had a bad waterpump so I replaced it. Was running like a champ but smoked like a steamship. Thought I had it pretty well until I started getting loads of water, I mean LOADS of water, pissing from my exhaust. So now I'm buying a new motor in January for it (JDM baby YEAH!) but its still an expense I didn't want to deal with. Was kinda hoping to get a motor while I drove it and build it nicely for the car. Well now I get to do a mild build on it with my new motor.....can't really win I guess but it's worth the extra time and money to do it right I suppose... All_talk
Could be worse... three weeks ago my '97 Suburban blew the tranny, even doing the R&R myself and getting the "good guy" price from my brother at the tranny shop it was still $2400, truns out it had been running broken and was trashed inside. THEN, two days after getting it back together the intake gasket starts leaking (a common problem with these things and the gaskets were replaced when I bought it less than 18,000 miles ago). So back into my shop for about 10 more hours of work, I wanted to push it off a cliff. In the midst of doing the manifold gaskets I remembered some wisdom my daughter had imparted on me that she had learned from a teacher... Its not "have to", its "get to". Some people dont even have a car to work on, its all about perspective. Trust in Karma Gary
