ausmhow
I just had an 87 gl 4x4 wagon given to me by a family friend. Their son owned the car and was replacing a broken timing belt and didn't finish the job. He had both of the belts off and had somehow had all the timing marks way off. How do I line up the two timing marks on the cam gears with the timing mark on the flywheel and have them all where they are supposed to be? Any advice would be greatly appreceated THANKS IN ADVANCE! GLCraig
This is a pretty simple one. First Rotate the crank over until you find the 3 cam timing marks on the flywheel. Line up the middle one with the pointer. Now you need to rotate one of the cam gears (it dosen't matter which one) until the pointer(the tiny little hole) is straight up (0*). There is a groove in the inner timing belt cover that you can use to line up too. Now go over to the other cam gear, rotate it until the pointer is straight down (180*). You should be all lined up at this point.
canajun2eh
Here's a somewhat elaborate but fool-proof method I wrote up for the XT6 board: http://www.xt6.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2131 I hope this helps.
