NorthWet
Well, according to the gods of USMB, I am no longer just a Subaru Nut, but a Certified one!!! WOOOT!!! Just another testament to post-grubbing. And since I am working in Special Ed., I guess that no only am I certifiable, but I am also Special! northguy
So, you work with the people who ride the short bus?
NorthWet
So, you work with the people who ride the short bus? Yup. I even ride on the bus myself. My wife wants to get me a shirt that says, "My mom says I'm Special!" Not sure how well that would go over at work... I don't think the parents would find it funny at all. :-\
carfreak85
Hey, not that I care if you guys talk about it, in fact I make fun of my self all the time because I was the normal kid in my special ed class (Procrastination and A.D.D. will put you there), but just be aware that there may be people on the board that have been in special ed. Now that I think about it, there were some messed up kids in my class in high school!
NorthWet
Yeah, I was thinking about that, and figured I was close to the line, just not sure which side of the line I was on... I am a substitute, so I get to work with all sorts of kids. The vast majority are nice kids that were dealt a lousy hand in life. I have met only a few that "enjoyed" their status, and they were pretty antisocial. I've worked with medically fragile, I've worked with aggressives, and kids that have just had bad breaks at home. Sometimes they joke about being on the short bus. That doesn't give me an excuse to do so, and if I have offended anybody I apologize.
northguy
I appreciate your sensitivity, but I don't see anything demeaning or derogatory in what's been said. I believe we're all deficient in some aspect of our lives. I'm as musically deficient as they come. I couldn't sing on key if I wanted to. And I couldn't keep a steady rhythm either. NorthWet
... I believe we're all deficient in some aspect of our lives. ... Yeah, I am socially inept. Its taken me decades to develop coping strategies to understand people. Also, I have no artistic abilities whatsoever... pretty darn good drafter, but can't draw worth a darn. I didn't say I was offended, I was just giving a word of caution. You never know who you might be offending.
