sooby dealerships SUCK!

I went into the local dealership today to get my oil pump reseal stuff and I argured with the parts manager that my 86 EA82 has the SAME oil pump as a loyale. He swore up and down that they were different.

so we looked up the diagram on the computer of a 1986 1.8 carbb'd EA82 wagon. It shows an oil pump I've never seen before. so I have him look up a loyale.... boom, theres the right diagram and seals and all that.

Funny how a manager of the ONLY subaru dealer with in 350 miles could be wrong about an engine that they sold. Not only wrong, but to have their parts computer (with a parts program that I'm sure other dealers are using) have the wrong parts. He told me that the 1600 and 1800 OHV and OHC from 1980 to 1989 all had the same oil pumps, and that the loyale had a completely different pump.

I think I'm going to get him fired. Must suck to have a 22 year old guy tell a 50 year old to his face that he is wrong, and hes a #$%@#^ idiot.

All and all, I got my seals I need (well, they are ordered) for 12 bucks. They should have given them to me free for teaching them something.

Oh yea, dont shop at the Auto Service Center in Fairbanks Alaska...

That sucks, I'm glad that the dealer I get my parts from, have parts counter people that have been working there since the 70's.

The only problem with them now is the New ownership. Lithia Sucks as an ownership group. They will not let there part department stock items that they don't sell a specific quanity of them a month. So most of the Gen1 and Gen2 stuff needs to be ordered. The good news is the regonial warehouse is about 10-15 miles a away, so if you put your order in early enough in the day you can get the part in the evening or next day.

HAHAHA, sucks for you guys! The dealer I go to doesn't always have what I need, but they always have the part number. And I know most of the guys who work there and they're pretty cool. They even knew about the WCSS6 and were telling people about it when I walked in. Chaplins is awesome, Ed and Wayne especially.

Got back from picking up my XT6 from one of the dealerships here in Delaware (Newark, DE...Matt Slapp Subaru). I know the service guys there, mechanics as well as the general manager. Think that matters?

I had an full engine reseal just done on one of my XT6s and noticed 30 minutes after I picked it up that it has an oil leak somewhere and coolant leak at the driver's side coolant line. Not only that, my driver's side timing cover is missing and it looks like a transmission fluid line it rubbing against my driver's side timing belt. I took this pic with my camera phone before I came here to work and emailed it to myself.

Subaru of Dallas has some good guys .. they know their stuff pretty well, but still and all, I do most of my business with Auburn suabru in WA.. When I lived there they always had what I needed.. and now that I'm in TX, they can often get what I need to me quicker and cheaper than SoD.

Those mechanics must have some serious head problems!! (Or be lawnmower mechanics!)

Usually you wont find the master subaru mechanic at the dealership. Most the time the little subaru shops I run into, have ex-dealership mechanics working in them. Seems they learn everything they need to know about Subaru's, then go into business for themselfs.

ITs a good thing you taught that manager, instead of taking his word and then finding out (after the parts have been ordered and arived) that they are the wrong parts.

Never had much luck with them around here either. Subarus there at the stealerships here localy are second class to the other manufacturers they sell. Then the Subaru guys that do work there arent into them at all and couldn't care less about selling your something for one. Now add the factor you have an OLD Subaru they've rarely heard of that FHI prolly don't even make parts for anyway.... :banghead:

Brad, you probably raninto a situation where a 50 yar old guy got this job in the last 3 - 5 years and is too embarassed to admit he doesn't know much about real subbies. Been looking at computers and microfiches too long. Too proud to admit he's wrong.

I have only stopped at the Subie dealer here in Danbury one time to look at an Impreza wagon. But my experience wasnt very good. Seems the sales people judge you by apperence. Not one person really wanted to talk to me. I guess cause I drove up in my old Loyale and was coming right from work (dirty job no need to dress nice for cause it will just get ruined) and must have looked like I couldnt afford the car.

Needless to saw I will be heading there soon to get a complete gasket and seal kit for my project motor soon but I am planning on being prepared with all the Subaru part numbers when I walk in the door.See how they like that.
