Microracer
Hello board, This is my 1st post and more likely to come. I just purchaced a 93 Loyale AT3 with 87K. There is a vibration that can be felt while driving if you just touch the gas pedal and also if you rest your hand on the gear shift. The vibration changes as speed varies. It is most noticable around 30mph and below. The dealership just put on brand new tires on the fronts. I'm wondering if it may be the tread pattern causing the bad vibes. I've put the car in neutral but the vibes are still there. One more thing, both front CVs were replaced. Vibes were present before and after the replacement. Also wondering if this is just normal for this car. Anyone else out ther have a model like mine? Thanks for all the help!!!
yumabrat
Does the vibration only happen while you are moving? Or does it happen while you are stopped as well? Just a question that might be help answer your question. Just a guess, but your front end might be out of alignment, if the vibration only happens while you are moving. Check the tire tread for uneven wear. This could indicate that the front end is misaligned.
Bucky92
Welcome to the board! I have a 92 Loyale 5 Spd. Mine has had an aweful vibe (more like a shake) since the day I bought it..over a year and a half ago.Granted Bucky has alot more miles on him 185,000. I have tried about everything new axle shafts, tires, rebalencing the tires,alignment...everything short of replacing the struts. My 88 GL wagon had the same problem. I am starting to think its just something about the car. He also has a small shake at idle (feels something like a misfire) but thats coming from a bad EGR sylinoid and a weak motor mount. Geesh..87,000 miles??? Your Loyale isnt even broken in yet!! Just to let you know..keep your oil clean change the timing belts and keep up with rust and you will have many many more years with that car....they are quirkie (crazy little stuff goes wrong) but good cars. I love them. I paid $600 for mine and all I have done to it was an axle shaft, exhaust, and some ignition work in the 25,000 miles I have put on him. They like to leak oil also. This one and my 88 GL wagon (if you dont know they are basically the same thing) were my most trouble free, dependable cars I have owned. Good Luck and enjoy your Loyale
idosubaru
is it AWD - check your driveshaft. the ujoints go bad. pull the driveshaft and feel the ujoint. it will either be seized or feel lumpy. sometimes you can see it visually if you know what you're looking for and it's bad enough. inspect your rims - they could be bent or have some damage to them. rotate your tires and see if the vibration changes or moves. MilesFox
did the dealer balance the tires. do you feel the vibration in your seat or just the steering. try moving the front tires to the back and see if that changes anything
Microracer
Miles- Vibration can be felt in the seat but not the steering wheel. Car tracks straight on the highway. Car is FWD and I can feel a little vibration if I put on the brake and put car in drive and apply a little gas. Get more noticable as I drive off. Bucky- thanks for the tips. How hard are timing belts to change? And based on your post it may be one of those things I have to get used to. I pulled the trans stick and the fluid looks good (pale red) and does not have a burned smell. It is also up to correct level. gary- I will try rotating the tires if it warms up a bit as well as get a balance on all 4 just to be sure. Thanks for the help. Any other suggestions or diagnosis always welcome...

It is also up to correct level. From what I have experienced timing belts are easy (I have a spare motor I use to practice on.) I think it will take more time moving everything out of the way than it will be to do the actual swap. I happened to do them on my spare motor in about a half hour but I didn't have to move anything around. All my Soobs have been 5 spds so I know nothing about the AT trannys...but on the plus all mine have been FWD. Great in the snow I just run snow treads on the front in the winter. Tip I have been told by these folks here is...when you change timing belts do the water pump gasket and the oil pump gasket along with cam seals. These EA82 love to leak oil from the cam seals and they love to suck in the oil pump gasket (looks like mickey mouse and is refered too as the mickey mouse gasket)They also, as the mileage racks up, tend to develope what we so lovingly call the Tick of Death (TOD) dont let the name scare you they will run forever with the lifters ticking.Usually cause by sucked in oil pump gasket, or dirty oil gumming up the HLAs. Frequent oil changes and some Sea Foam or Marvels Mystery Oil from time to time helps with this..MMO has worked wonders for mine. Any questions just ask..these ppl are extremely knowledgeable....I can help alittle but I am still in "training" Good Luck
Microracer
Thanks Bucky. Now that you mention it this bugger sounds like a sewing maching till a little heat gets in the motor. Then the tapping settles down. I read elsewhere about the lifter tap and am not overly concerned. BTW- exactly what is an HLA? Thanks again! HLA= Hydrolic Lash Adjusters Next oil change just toss in some Sea Foam or Marvels Mystery Oil...quieted mine down a good bit..and I have had my Loyale for about a year and a half now with that wonderful noise..MMO has been in my system now for about a month and has done wonders
Microracer
From a previous post: the 3spd isnt a bad transmission - just dont neglect it. they have a very accessable governor gear that i recommend pulling out and cleaning once a year, a 20 minute job tops. make it easier on yourself and service the whole trans every year - takes about 1 hour and includes trans fluid, gov. gear, vacuum mod., and filter... Any chance this vibration is a gummy governor? And where do you find a AT trans filter. Checked AutoZone and they didn't stock one. Thanks again everyone...
