gravelRX
Wife was driving at the mall, fellow in a 05 Nissan pick-up turned left across oncoming traffic and hit the Legacy. She's OK.(That's all that matters to me) Totalled the pickup. Adjuster will look at the car on the 27th. I'd like to see the Legacy totalled out, but even with the suspension damage and frame tweek on the drivers side I think it can be fixed. Damn. The other driver got out of his car and apologized, said it was all his fault. Officer was there didn't write any tickets because it was private property. Said if he was going to write a ticket he would have written the other fellow for failure to yield. Gave me his card and said if we had any trouble with insurance to find out his days in court and subpoena him as a witness. Want to take guesses on the repair bill for this damage? Engine runs and car will move under its own power, at least in a straight line. No fluid leaks from under the car. Drivers side wheel/tire/suspension assembly is pushed backwards about a foot. I haven't gotten under it to take a good look yet. Oh well. C'est la Vie. Jay Don't ask about parts.
howards11
Cars can be repaired. People sometimes can't be. I'm glad your wife wasn't injured. ~Howard
gravelRX
Thanks for the sentiment. Hartford/Omni insurance is going to be taking care of the damage and the costs. I contacted them on the 23rd and was told that they only do rentals on a reimbursement basis. 30.00 maximum for a day. A nice guy at Enterprise Rental car gave me a 2005 Ford F150 4x4 Supercab for 27.27 a day(I need the 4wd for the driveway). They are usually 100.00 a day. He said Merry Christmas. Again, any SWAGS on repair cost? Jay
sportsterbrat
I'll say 3500.
howards11
I'd go a bit higher considering the cost of Subie only parts. I'd say $4,250. ~Howard
NorthWet
I'd say $7000. Our '87 got backed over, crunched the hood and the top of the fenders... estimate was $2300!!! InsCo totalled, paid us $1100. As the others have said, the important part was your family is OK.
bajavwnsoobnut
Glad that your wife is OK and all and I would guesstimate it to be about the 5000-7500 mark but of course that Ins. Co. is going to total it cause of the suspension damage man and I have a friend with a 02 and it's a bummer to see stuff like that but of course he is having his own issues with a leaking HG externaly but it is 2 inches higher than that leg due to an install of King Springs thanks to me installing them and after seeing the suspension components on his 02 Leg I would think that yours is toast cause it's gonna take alot to get it back to spec's especialy since it's mounted to the Unibody in a few places
gravelRX
I'm guessing around 7-8K for the repair to the car. If that's the case then it won't be totalled. Might bring up depreciated resale value during assessment from the adjuster. Looking at the damage again and thinking about what the truck looked like at the scene, I swear the front bumper of the truck went up the hood and broke the windshield. All the damage on the side of the Legacy was from the left front tire of the truck. The tire on the truck and all related assemblies were folded under the drivers footwell. It was good and ugly. Not that the Legacy looks unscathed. Like I said in the first post the only thing that truly matters is life and limb. Glad my three year old wasn't in the car, I probably wouldn't have been as cordial to the young man that hit the Legacy. Jay
f15xxx
$5000. if they can put on complete clips, your car can be repaired. it's too bad. if you looked up a--hole in the dictionary, there would be a picture of that pickup driver.
felipe01forester
Brother, I feel your pain. Similar thing happened to me in my Forester. I was going across a street when this woman in a minivan came out of a parking lot, turned onto the cross street, wasn't looking, and t-boned me. The insurance company called it a draw because it was a 2-way stop and she wasn't looking although she had the right of way. But, my Soob is as good as new. While it was in the shop, I was driving a '69 VW Beetle. Coming home from school, the next intersection was green, so I continued. Right as I come to the intersection, this ******* woman in a Ford Escort turns from the opposite direction onto the cross street, giving me only about 5 feet to stop. Alas, the Volks was made before anti-lock brakes, and I slammed right into her. She wasn't insured, either. Luckily, I have an uninsured driver policy, and the insurance company gave me $4000 for it. Now it is a cube. 2004 was just not a good year for me and cars. :-\
ballitch
Id say at least 7-9k to fix damage, if you havent paid that much in insurance since you've been with your insurance company, they'll probably total it, since it's an 02' with a blue book of at least 12-14k, if it costs them more than half what the vehicle is worth then they'll most likely total it. And with the kind of damage that your talking about, since all subarus have a unibody constuction with a highly reinforced body structure, if they do fix it, it may not drive straight, if the frame is bent as bad as you explained, but that is probably the reason your wife is just fine. ~Josh~
