benebob
I was at the junkyard yesterday and came across a XT6 with a 5 speed in it. I can get the thing for like $50 and with 170k on my auto am trying to figure out if I can use it. 1st The tranny is a 4wd while my car is FWD. I'm not planning on converting it to 4wd. I can just plug up the driveshaft area right? 2nd What else will I need other than the pedals and clutch cable/ power booster. Do I need the cross member? 3rd If I do decide to convert it to 4wd will the stuff simply bolt on?
Dennis ex24
1. wouldnt be too much work to swap the rest of it in if youre going that far, i think the XT6s were a pretty straight foward swap because they didnt make many 2WD models - i havent been under one in a while but if i remeber right, the 2WDs look like the 4WDs did, just with a bunch of spoob missing. totally worth the work in my opinion... 2. not sure if you need the cross member... 3. most if not all of it... 4. goto the beaver springs meet - its stickied at the top of this forum...and also let me know if you want some help doing this swap, get intouch im like 1.5 hrs from you. dude. svxpert
Is this the xt-6 at Harrys?
benebob
Yeah its at Harry's. Why you know that car? I didn't get a good look at it just in passing. Got there at 6:15 and had to get a hatch for an EA82, and mirror by 7.
Dr. RX
There is no difference between the XT6 trannys and the EA82 series trannys. The difference is the way it is mounted to the car. Since the XT6 engine is longer, it sits further back and that makes the tranny sit a little further back. To solve this, they came up with a tranny mount the combines the to crossmembers on an EA82 series car. There is a piece the goes between these two crossmember that the tranny actually mounts to. This is almost the same as a Legacy/Impreza tranny mount. The XT6 tranny will use the same mounting points as the EA82 series cars if you are installing it behind an EA82 series engine. svxpert
If its the same one I saw its missing the stuff you would need for a 4-to-5 lug swap and the alt. But maybe there is a different one there.
benebob
4 to 5 lug swap? I'm confused. I have a 6 with a 5 lug it was a 6 as well. Just swaping the tranny and maybe the 4wd stuff.
svxpert
i was up there last month and I grabbed the brakes, calipers, control arms, axels and alt to do a 4-to-5 lug swap on my RX. I was just wondering if this was the same XT-6.
