WaFLHTRider
Have an 87 GL with an EA82 Fuel Injected. Thing is just about to roll over 200k. I am thinking about purchasing a rebuilt engine as opposed to rebuilding/resealing this one. Wife drives the car and she sees no reason to replace the car. Anyone know of a good source for rebuilt / remanufactured engines in the Northwest US? I am located south of Tacoma WA.

Snowman
Is there anything really wrong with the engine that's in the car now? These motors can run for 300k just fine if they're taken care of. If you are looking for a rebuilt engine, check out ccrengines.com. I have not personally used them, but have heard great things from others. WaFLHTRider
Thanks for the information. I will check these leads out. As for the engine in the car now. Leaks, mileage and the "tick" are the only problems. I just don't really have the time to rip into it right now. Maybe I will buy a used imported engine and then go through this engine. Before we met she had an overheating problem and had to have both heads replaced. I can smell coolant but have yet to determin the source. I add about a cup of coolant per week. The large tubes for the heater hoses are dry at both ends. I can see where one of the small hoses from the base of the intake and the tstat housing need replacing but no signs or leakage there. I suspect it could be a water pump or a head leaking. If I were to tear into this engine my list of items to inspect/replace are as follows. Timing belts & tensioners, waterpump, cam seals, crank seal, valve cover gaskets, oil pump & mickey mouse gasket. I might have missed something not having my list infront of me. mdjdc
There is an EA82 reconditioned engine on ebay right now. $460.00 plus 150 for shipping from california. The company is makotoengines and their number is 866-625-6862. Ordering direct is more expensive than getting the ebay engine. I guess they want to decrease inventory of these old engines. Good Luck
89Ru
ASAP Motors (Texas) www.asapmotors.com I bought an EA82, put 50K on it over last two years, no problems. Shipping was around $75 to Maryland.

They are rebuilt 200k mile engines. Is there something drasticly wrong with the current engine?

I have not personally used them, but have heard great things from others. I'd echo that. I bought an EA82 for a 92 Loyale wagon from CCR when I lived in Wyoming to replace an engine that lost a headon battle with an antelope and put over 110k on it with no troubles before I sold the car.
