torxxx
well my clutch finally ate it this morning on the way to work. new disc/ used pressure plate. The old clutch has gotten so Hot that it turned the springs and everything around it bright blue. hehehe I took her out ice racing for 20 miles last night to see if it'd make it.. well it did Took me an hour and 25 minutes. From driving the car into the shop, pullling engine, change clutch, back out of the shop. How long does a clutch job take the rest of you guys? I'm trying to get an idea, so I have a time to beat on my next clutch job!
MilesFox
hey that is good time! did you have a lift. pulling the tranny would probably be easiest with the car in the air! one clutch i did, i did with teh motor separated from the bellhousing and slung slightly from a crane, just enough to get the PP around the input shaft. i pulled the rad and the heater hoses, but i did not have to disconnect anything else from the motor except for the intake rubber tube from the MAF and the y-pipe. took me about 2 hours, but i was taking my time and going back and forthe between working on 2 cars with jim wood and myoss feece
torxxx
I'm going to have to try that way next.
Syonyk
So you pulled the engine out to do it? I'm looking for input on changing my clutch... it's fine for now, but won't be fine forever. -=Russ=-
northguy
Torxxx, how much did the new clutch kit cost you, and where did you get it? I'll be l;ooking for one in the near future.
torxxx
Syonyk - yeh I pulled the engine all the way out. figured I had to lift the motor anyways to the get engine mount studs out of the cross memeber, so I just lifted it all the way out.. only makes a minute different, lifting the engine up and setting it on the front clip. you can drop the tranny to do it, but it seems like more work and a PITA for one person to do. I dont know about you, but I hate lying on the floor doing work. I'd rather have it up on a table. Matt - Carquest or Napa, full clutch kit, 135 bucks up here in fbks so prolly 125/130 down there. the kit comes with clutch disc, pp, pilot bearing and I think it had the throwout bearing too. Snowman
It took me way longer to do the only clutch job I've done on a subaru, but that was because I was working on two cars at the same time, and it was the first time I'd touched an SPFI car so I was carefully checking out how everything hooked up. I've pulled engines in half an hour, so I bet I could do it in about the same time that it took you. He he, we should have a head to head competition to see who can pull an engine and put it back in fastest:brow: .
torxxx
hehe.. yeah we can do that. but keep in mind kelly, that I pull 4 or 5 engines a week at work. God I love my job... too bad it didnt pay better. 100 bucks a day for turning wrenches seems a lil cheap
