will i need to change flanges, etc to get this vf22 and tmic on my ea82T? what else will i need to get / do?
First, I have never seen a Rex with a VF22

They are however, avaiilable for the WRX and STi;)

To use one, you will need to change/modify:

uppipe flange

downpipe/downpipe flange

a little massaging of oil/coolant lines

Intake pipe

Intercooler pipe (I assume you wouldn;t do such a thing without an IC)

Now for the big question.. Why?

A VF22 on an EA82T wouldn't even think about beginning to spool until probably somewhere around 4k.. IE, sometime next week.

I think a VF22 on an EA82T would be what my friends and i refer to as the "boost tuesday turbo"

I'll project what happens when you floor it.

*FLOOR IT*

*WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE "hmmm....3,000.....4,000....5,000 rpms...yeah still no boost"

*Little light comes up on the dash which reads "i'm sorry sir, your boost is on order however stuck in customs, we believe you can expect delivery tuesday"

I think even a stock WRX turbo is pushing the envelope a little bit.

Now.....if you want to build a killer motor, and get rid of the winnie 7.8:1 compression, and use the 9.1:1 pistons from a SPFI N/A motor.....THEN...you can probably spool up the VF22. Compression spools big turbos fast....and still actually move when there is lag!!! makes for a very nice engine.

SPFI is 9.5:1 just for clarification. That might be a bit much to run with a large turbo because you would run into detonation before seeing the benefit of the increase in turbo size (unless you had big $$$ engine management). Carbed pistons would yield 8.7:1, which would probably be more desirable.

I dont recal the charicteristicts of the vf22 turbo off hand .but just because a turbos bigger does not mean it will not make boost.

as for the WRX TD04 turbo on an EA82T. I find it to work much better than the stock unit. lag difference is minimal. not enough to really notice in day to day driving. I prefer the drivability of the TD04 over the stock unit by far. the only other mods I have are rather mild. some day I may be looking for another larger turbo with ceramic ball bearings. that reduces lag and alows you to run a bigger turbo. and now that I have my set up for the TD04 those will be almost bolt on items. but that can wait untill there are some other more important fuel control items in place and a solid lower end built for it.

to answer the original question. I have to say Calebz has most all of it. there are some smaller issues that can be a real pain. what ever turbo you select try to find one that can be clocked easily and be prepaired to do some cut and weld action to make it fit to the exhaust.
