EA82T Hesitation until boost.

Recommended Posts

Ive noticed lately that my car has a small bit of hesitation, but only until i get above 0psi. Once its got positive boost it seems to stop alltogether and pull. Kinda sucks when I want to mosey down the road. If i want it to drive flawlessly i have to floor it (not too opposed to that).

Its had its basic tuneup.

Your disty might be a little sluggish, squirt some contact cleaner in there and the flush with lubricant, I use the synthetic chain oil I have for my mountian bikes cause it's really thin even at low temps. Check you vac lines, might be the cause. Do you have a flappper Maf if so give er a quick cleaning. Hopefully this isn't the hesitation that all the ea82t's seem to experience at one point or another. Worst case it's your fuel pump on it's last legs, On three twagons i've replaced two to fix the prob, on the one in my sig it was the vac mech in the disty that fixed it after cleaning.

Good luck.:)

that sucks. It never did that to me.

that fuel pump is fairly new dont think thats it. the TPS could give you a probelm like that.

may sound silly but EGR can give you probems like that too. try disconecting and pluging the egr vac/press line.

my wagon used to do that hesitation thing too. I did a lot of stuff to try and fix it. I think I decided that it was sucking air in at the maf boot by the turbo. made it run a bit lean.

another easy thing is to clean the maf. the hot wire maf like yours can get crap on it and throw off the readings. I have had that happen too. car ran like crap.

What should i use to clean the Maf?

Its got a new rotor and disty cap, so im sure the contacts are still good. Maybe I'll upgrade my wires to 8mm when I get a new coil.

I like to use brake cleaner, tons of it, tip and empty wait for it to dry, done.

What Russ said is good advice I had my EGR sol throw things off on my last turbo.

yeah brakeclean is just fine.

the ngk wires that are on it are going to be better than any "high performance" wire such as accel. that set is a bit old but I would use the same type if you want to change em. they are constructed from far better quality and fitting material than most wires.

I have fixed too many ignition problems on cars with aftermarket performance wires.

try clocking the tps sensor, you can loosen the screws and turn it a degree or 2 either way, makes the car think the throttel is a little more open or close, this may clear it up a little. it helped on our rx when danny had it. before the car was jerky at about 2000 rpm till you mash it

If it gets severe i'll start adjusting sensors, but right now im going to K.I.S.S :)

I'll clean the MAF out, probably should while im installing the intercooler. Russ, the distributor cap and rotor look very new. Did you replace those when you put those wires on? If they are NGK wires then i'll trust them over pretty much anything (but have heard good things about Magnacore).
