fender
hi everyone, longtime subie owner first time posting. i have 3 subes at the present time 2 '95 legacy wagons an auto with 136000 a stick with 189000 and a '94 legacy wagon with 110000. i love 'em my wife and son drive the autos and i drive the stick which has been a pistol as of late. i got a code reader and i kept getting o2 sensor malfunction. i replaced with a univeral bosch and now i'm getting the same code popping up. it also got a pressure sensor code which according to the hanyes manual is only on turbos and automatics. when that code popped the car wouldn't start and when i turned the key off the check engine light would come on and one of the radiator fans would also come on. i opened the hood, jiggled the wires near the o2 lead and the light and fan shut off and the car started right up. pretty weird! any thoughts? SevenSisters
Sounds like a bad connection. Check and Re-crimp the "wires near the O2 lead".Do you know which wires (where they go to) they were?
northguy
Welcome to the board. How are things in good old Dubuque? (I grew up in Savanna, IL). Sounds like a loose wire. Good luck in the wire chase.

Check and Re-crimp the "wires near the O2 lead".Do you know which wires (where they go to) they were? thanks, i checked the resistance of the sensor and got a new one. hooked it back up using the connectors that came with the bosch sensor still popped the o2 code this morning on the way to work. i'm getting 12v coming out the engine side of the harness. i'll try soldering the other connection. Skip
IMHO The sensor that sounds like it is giving you problems is not, repeat not the 02 sensor. The FI Coolant Sensor connections are in the same area as the 02 sensor connections. The tip here is the fans running. When the ECU sees a problem with the FI CS it turns the fans on in case the engine is over heating. Mine did the same thing - jiggle => off with the fans & CEL for a week - then CEL and fans on returned. For 30 bucks I replaced the FI CS - the silliness has ceased now for a 1000+ miles. Haynes should stick to making underwear. I am sorry, and I apologize, your first post is a bit convoluted for my old brain - you are driving the 95 correct? The 94 has OBD I and the 95 has OBD II is why I ask. Hope this helps. If you need a picture of where the FI CS is. I will get you one if you email me. Not to jack the post - but, I could have fit in well with your band back in the "Savanna days." Good luck with the problem and tip one for me the next time you're the "Sportsman's paradise" (as the sign claims anyway).
fender
here's an update on my "wire ghost". i tried the computer trick mentioned in haynes book unhooked the 'puter sprayed the harness with electrical cleaner let it dry put it all back together drove to work and so far no cel's i don't know if that did it or i'm barking up the wrong wire tree!
