MorganM
Sounds fun!! I'll have to see if I can make it. Its only a 3 hour drive down there. Was just down there this last weekend actually If I could get some real life crap out of the way I could even drive my rig down but I wont be holding my breath. I'll check in here after I know if I can make it or not. Latez
MorganM
Welp I talked to my wife and it looks like that weekend is free for us. She will not be coming with however (she thinks I'm crazy ) but Archemitis said he would like to go. This would be great seeing how I will be breaking down either on the way down or on the way back up (preferably the latter!) I have half of my lift kit in and still making progress every day. 3 weeks should be enough to get her Highway and Trail ready. Looks like about a 4-5 hour drive by this map. http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?csz=Mapleton%2C+IA+51034-1271&state=IA&uzip=51034&ds=n&name=&desc=&ed=gzTMb.p_0Toy2E4W9arZxxmKtESITYC6vuUI6OAn0dp31nmHrbC88TsddBmBy6Vm9sdlZe3PNxYz79U-&BFClick=&BFKey=&resize=s&mag=5 Do you recomed the camp grounds or would a hotel be more suiting? Some camp grounds are uh.. pretty rough Hope to see you there and I'll report back as more details emerge. Thx
mcbrat
Morgan, this will be my first time there... have you already registered? I'm still trying to get my rig ready as well. it goes in for custom bumpers and skid plate this week.... I really have no idea of what to expect from this weekend.... should be fun though..... I'm gonna be "tenting" it with my 5 year old son.... Be sure you have all the safety check things, as apparently they do check everything pretty good.... Qman
Mick, after viewing the pics you'll have a real good time and should have any difficulties with the trail. Your rig will be set up just fine. Ken
MorganM
So its $75 per vehicle and I bring a friend in my vehicle we can split that evenly; correct? Sounds a little steep but I guess thats for camping and a pass into the park for both days which I sounds more reasonable. I've never been to a real ORV park so I cant really judge but I was talking to a Jeep guy at work here and he was a little supprised at the registration price. I dont think I will preregister now since its too late to get the t-shirt but I will definatly fill this out and bring it with. Who do I give this too to get properly registerd at the event? It says you can register on site for the same $ but no t-shirt included. Subu luvr : great we can all caravan down. safety in numbers I say Your hatch will do fine towing me home... i mean in the dirt Archemitis: since your rig is pretty much ready to go can you be on spare parts detail? i have a feeling we will need axles and alternaters! LOL I only have one spare axle assembly. We'll talk about that more tho later. Peace
archemitis
SO I MIGHT BE THE ONLY GUY ON 13 INCH WHEELS? everyone will be impressed when i have to hit stuff way too fast to get over it! or they will laugh. hmmm
MorganM
Naw Subu will be on 13"s in his hatch now that I think about it... if I cant fit on these tires I got I'll be on 13"s too!!! unless I can find somethign at a junkyard...

archemitis
you arent going to have a full size morgan. you need one more pug, course we could drill out some toyota for a spare, for ya.
Syrinx
Hey Mick, count me in tenativley. I would be bringing my 4 year old too. Make it a Semi-Midwest Meet? Kurt
archemitis
i am getting very excited! looks like a nice park. im used to driving straight down 35, and seeing no trees in iowa. looks pretty wooded though. that hill climb looks great. MC most of those rigs look like they are built for rockwalling and mud. that terain looks great for subarus to slide along on floorboards (thats why subies are slooth underneath). or are the pics misleading? fun fun
Guest subu luvr
hmmm, gonna need more than just bigger rubber i think

mcbrat
there will be a registration place at the event as well. I believe there will also be shirt available for seperate purchase. I need to go out and get my hookless tow strap yet, and some of the other inspection items... I want to make sure I don't get turned away
mcbrat
another thing. this place isn't a "normal" ORV park, in that there is no Day use or day riding. you have to be a "member". But it is open to the public for this event. it's probably about a 2 hour drive for me... which would make it about 10 for Kurt...might be faster for you Kurt if you could get a quick way over to I-29... mcbrat
I talked to another club member today, and he said it should be fun for the soobies there. all different kinds of terrain, etc... lots of places to play.....
DoughtCom
Ahhh man wanted to meet all of you guys, but this is far from something I could see myself doing . Plus my lowered Legacy and Broken GL wouldn't make good vehicles for this contest Kick some.... butt though!
MorganM
Archemitis and I have been talking it over too and just dont think it would be wise to make this trip. I hate to back out but it's just not the best timing First is the finantial situation. I'll be spending about $200 just to get my rig upto par (rear struts, exhuast, tire dismount/mount/balance, misc parts). I figure about $60 in gas just for getting there and back. Another $25 or so in food. Then $75 to register there. $xx.xx in whatever breaks/goes wrong. It ads up fast. It sounds like McBrat would be the only other subaru guy there with the possibility of Syrinx and Subu Luvr. I'm sure the other club guys are great but if we are just gonna meet one maybe 2 other USMB members hell I could make a road trip to Iowa and do that for alot less $ I also have little REAL trail experience and being that I'm so far from home I wouldnt really be wheeling that hard. Sounds like just a few of us localy are going to go to Northfield MN (about 40 miles south of the cities) where an old farmer now runs a small ORV park. We prolly wont even camp so it will be a $20 trip in gas and entry fee. This will be a more realistic trail run to break in both me and my battle wagon. Peace and good luck on the trail! ps take pics so i know just what I missed!!
northguy
Morgan, if it makes you feel any better, I was out huntig last weekend when 15 off-roaders wandered up the trail where we were. I watched the circus they were involved in for over three hours where 9 of the fifteen attempted to make it through this large mud hole and then up this huge, muddy hill where I was. 6 of the poor souls had to turn back, 3 others broke parts, all 9 who made it through had to be winched through... it looked like a lot of work. And they weren't too happy when we left and slid right through on 4 wheelers like it was nothing. The worst part was they had to go back through it on the way out. I visited their web site (http://www.alaskaoffroad.com) and read a statement about not tearing up the land - there's a false statement (but who am I to talk; I was riding my 4 wheeler).
