1940150
I have an 85 brat and am wondering if it has a computer in it, and if so where would it be located? Also how does one tell if you have an EA-81 or EA 82 motor? Thanks to anyone who can help. Bob
edrach
You have an EA81 unless someone swapped it...unlikely. You can see the EA81 embossed in the engine casting just to the left of the crankshaft pulley. Whether it has a computer or not depends on whether it was made for California emissions or not (I think); the computer would be under the dash in the vicinity of the steering column. Qman
As you are from Wisconsin USA the comp(if equipped) will be located under the steering column. Remove the plastic cover from under the dash under the column. Look up and if you have one you'll see it. Yes, EA81 is your motor. Look behind and to the left of the distributor. It will be stamped in the block.

Skip
Another way to check for an ECU (Emission Control Unit) Is to look for an 02 sensor in the exhaust "Y" pipe. The saying goes NO 02 - No ECU Hope this helps
