e3mt
1994 Leagcy wagon, 5 speed AWD. Have replaced the struts, axles, brakes and I have a noise. It is not engine speed sensitive, but vehicle speed sensitive. Will not make the noise (kind of a "whump, whump, whump) while driving straight. Only when turning the wheels. Anyone have an idea? I would greatly appreciate it. PS - Tires at proper pressure. Rotated them and the noise stays in the front.
frag
If you apply the brakes even lightly when this happens, does the noise stop?
gbrand
Usual suspects are tires, axles, and brakes. I know you have looked at/replaced most of these. I would also suspect Wheel bearing(loose), tie rod end or part of brakes not normally serviced. I had a noise in one side of my 80 wagon, seemed to be loose bushings for the caliper guidepins allowing it to vibrate and was worse in a turn. Does it make the noise if you run it on Jack stands and turn the wheel? One other possiblility is splines stripped in the hub, the hubs are usually made softer than the axle shafts. I had one of those on the rear of my 80. Noises like this can drive you nuts till you find the cause. Did the manual I sent help you with the '79? Good luck
e3mt
Noise continues when applying brakes. No noise when jacked up and turning the wheels by hand. Don't have any looseness to make me think it would be the bearings. Dunno. Am trying to get this Legacy fixed for sale so I can buy the 1979. Thank you much for the manual. I hope to use it soon!
