Handtool
This the one? I found it on cartalk.com. According to the article, subaru is meeting less stringent fuel economy standards using a loophole to classify some of their vehicles as trucks. Read it all ....here
northguy
Looks like it was photoshopped to me. But cool, none-the-less.

SevenSisters
Hats off to Click and Clack for the Monster Subaru pics. Let’s face it. no self respecting environmentalist would ever buy a gas hog Subaru, but for the uninitiated, you get great AWD SUV type performance when you need it and it still looks like a car. I know, some people will rationalize they need a Subaru to get through the snow to their commune, but I’ve heard people try to rationalize their Expeditions or Yukons by saying they’ve got 8 kids and like to go camping. But it’s easy, just leaving a little earlier will get you where you’re going in a Geo Metro or even a Yugo. No need for a gas hog AWD. The Car Talk pics just bring to light the evil anti environment Subaru owners that may even drive off the road and kill innocent blades of grass. What a shame. coloradosubarules
I like to drive my roo thru really dry grass in the everglades and watch the trail of fire behind that my hot exhaust caused. Then when the trail runs out I like to make my own. I whip out the old chainsaw that smokes waaaay too much and chop some trees down. Sometimes I displace a birds nest or two but it's ok because I fry up the bird eggs and make me a chickidy omlet. I really hate when my oil leaks out of my oil pan when I make those stream crossings. I like that I can take my old tires and batteries with me when I go off-roading and then leave them out in the middle of nowhere. Out of sight, out of mind. mtsmiths
http://www.4x4.is If you hit the URL posted in the upper right corner of the pic you end up in Iceland. Looks like there's some dedicated car modifiers there ... with no place much to drive EXCEPT off road! Just be careful and don't fall in a fumerole. outback_97
Ok... no it's not my car, it is from Iceland, here's another link to what I assume is the same car, although with smaller tires and no fender flare / cover thingies. http://www.f4x4.is/bilar/Subaru/Subaru01.html When you try to (free online machine) translate from Icelandic to English, this is what you get: SUBARU SITUATION 1993 ;fn) is Subaru Situation '93 whom I hef verið snuggle up to variable. Megnið af with drifbúnaðinum is Toyota Hilux, while esophagus is Subaru. Well struggle var snuggle up to come framhjólabúnaðinum underneath, while everything tókst there snuggle up to lokum. He is illiterate and credit with rundown hlutföllum. Deck are 33". Not is öllu heldur change lokið, t.d. are brettakantar after, and kanski lock. Form messenger Emil City September 1999. So... Toyota frame... 33" tires... no idea what anything else might be. "esophagus is Subaru?" Steve

outback_97
They're not? Did you click on the link or are you referring to the photo with the bigger tires? This has to be the same car, there just can't be that many Legacies like that on a Toyota frame. Agreed on the cracy Icelanders though. Steve EDIT: OTOH what's the deal with the roof rack... there's one on the super monster tire one but not on the big tire one. I wish I could read Icelandic... is it similar to Danish? Maybe one of our Danish members will pitch in?

outback_97
Morgan: Are you sure, look closely under the driver's door. Plus the text mentions "Toyota Hilux" ??? Where's Bjork, she can read this for us. I could see her driving a Subaru for some reason. Steve

That thing you point out there looks like a tranny cross member to me. Looks like there MIGHT be leaf springs in the rear there.... but what about the front? I dont see leaf springs there :/ Again kinda a crappy pic to see these things.
mudrat79
I AM going to have one of those.... Looking at the Smaller tire pic, It apears to have leaf in the rear and Something close to stock with blocks in the front.....Remember Legacy front lower arms have a different llook to them than older gen cars.....I think what you are seeing in the front is the rear of the lower arm blocked up some to accomodate the bigger tires....... The MONSTER LEGACY has Leaf for sure in the rear , and Possible up front , but front almost looks like they fabbed in the entire front IFS from under the Donor Toyota....... I wish I could read Icelandic....... Later, John
