WJM
as in WHY didnt SUBARU in their INFINATE wisdom, at least work in a recirv valve into the turbo setups???????????????????????????????????????????? Which leads my to my next question... WHY were the turbo soobs not popular 'back in the day'...as in, 1985-2001 in the USDM????
kingbobdole
as in WHY didnt SUBARU in their INFINATE wisdom, at least work in a recirv valve into the turbo setups???????????????????????????????????????????? Ohh thats easy.... They didn t need to... and its cheaper not to. WHY were the turbo soobs not popular 'back in the day'...as in, 1985-2001 in the USDM???? 3 reasons for this. A. Subaru didnt go for the "sports car fan" as much as they went for the thrifty guy and fuel ecno dude... I dont know if you noticed, but these things are not fast stock. 2. They were popular, extremely popular, come to Boulder and see.. Just no one really noticed them in the racing scene, see fact A. C. The newer soobs tend to get pricier and pricer when compaired to other "rice" or weeked race cars. The cheapest Soob is like 17-18K for a 2.5 imp... focuses are like 6 grand. or you can buy a ranger and get a free Focus.
Snowman
Question 1: Just like what has been said, it's cheaper. Question 2: Not having been over the age of 8 when Subaru produced the loyale turbo (it ended in 94 right?), I can't say for sure, but judging from who still owns them, I would guess that Subaru just didn't market their cars to the racing crowd, at least in the US. Even the turbo cars were marketed as relatively utilitarian and practical vehicles, not race cars.
calebz
As has been stated above, the lack of recirc valve was cheaper.. additionally, it isn't needed on the stock setup. The extremely small amount of air between the turbo and the TB can be easily handled by the dash pot. As far as popularity.. you are just in the wrong part of the country. Go to boulder. Go to seattle. The old EA82 turbo soobs are still common.. 10 years ago they were extremely common. But again, as was stated, they were not part of the racing scene.. they were not really intended to go fast.
WJM
that so called dash pot is the biggest POS ive ever seen. I've taken the stuff apart and seen that the TP still closes 100% when it goes from 100% WOT to 100% closed. No slowing action evAr on the closing action. I've totaled a turbo from one day of driving like its the WRC with a stock setup.

MorganM
as in WHY didnt SUBARU in their INFINATE wisdom, at least work in a recirv valve into the turbo setups???????????????????????????????????????????? Which leads my to my next question... WHY were the turbo soobs not popular 'back in the day'...as in, 1985-2001 in the USDM???? 1) It's not a high performance machine. They never intended it to be one. As noted its cheaper not to put one in. They prolly put in a turbo to make up for their inefficient auto transmission :-p 2) Lots of reasons... people are wussies, they 'dont need it', its 'not as reliable', or it was more expensive, they might not of even known there was a turbo model. I'm sure there's more.
Myxalplyx
Subaru marketing from the '80s: "Inexpensive and built to stay that way" Unfortunately, I've dumped way more money in my XT6s than what they are worth. The POSs!
Do It Sidewayz
I dunno....we haven't had too many problems so far. We've run these things for like 7 years at ice racing...we go from 100% WOT to 100% off the throttle probably 10 times a lap!!! We haven't toasted a turbo to date. You will need something when you have installed an intercooler.
