Yay, saw an old gen subaru first time since I moved to Michigan

Recommended Posts

Yup. I think it was this tuesday that I saw an old gen subie for the first time since I moved to Michigan. I mean old gen subies are rare in places like here where it snows every other days and salty roads. I was on I-94 eastbound going to school and saw it. It was a light blue gl sedan...(can't specify it...I just saw a subie emblem and gl emblem) Does anyone know who own this vehicle?

Thanks

Dan

I know what you mean... Older Soobs are a rare sighting around here. Afew "newer" ones, but not to many of the "older" ones. Most, if not all of the "newer" ones, are just passing thru town me thinks, as I only see them once in awhile.

Besides mine, I think I've only seen 4 other "older" ones over the last 2 years or so. An early '80's Hatch, a later '80's Wagon, late '80's Sedan, and a XT. I see the Wagon more often now, but most times it's going in the other direction. I'll be sure to leave a note on it, if I ever find it parked. Or talk to the owner if they're around.

EA81 cars are super rare here. There are a bunch of Loyales and EA82's but most of them are driven by people who look at my funny when I wave at them. I have seen two other BRAT on the road. One of that I think was a turbo.

I guess if I really wanted to see old Soobs, I can go to Brat1709's place. He's got three BRATs, a 360 sedan and a SVX. :slobber:

I bought my first Sooby about a month ago. It's a 74 GL 4wd wagon. I had been driving a VW Fox which was dying and found the Sooby offered for sale by my VW mechanic. I got it for $300 and my Fox in trade.

It's a rust bucket that grew up in Colorado, but it runs well, the 4wd works and all of the electrical goodies, like windows and mirrors work too. At any rate, I've been looking for other older Soobys but I don't see many. Interestingly enough, a friend of mine has owned two in the last 5 years or so. They both became probematic, so he sold them.

Newer Soobs are around though. 4WDs are pretty popular here in the desert. I DID see and older one just today, however. It might have an STX (?) it was a really strange looking sedan with a predominant belt line. It never caught up to me on the highway, so I couldn't catch more than a glimpse when we were parallel on the highway and the frontage road. Oh well.

But it's funny. When a guy buys a new car, he starts seeing others much like it. I'll keep looking!
