DAlgie
Getting ready to probably buy a new Legacy GT Turbo 5MT. Anyone have any input with this car? Apart from the turbo, is the driveline the same as my '01 Impreza? Viscous diffs? Any problems with the quad cam 2.5, does it have the coolant leaks like the single cam 2.5? Oh, and does it have a damm trunk light? That one little detail bugs me, my old '82 GL had a trunk light till the day I sold it....
Legacy777
The new legacy turbo is going to be a lot more refined then the impreza, and have a lot of stuff that the impreza doesn't have. The AWD for the MT is the same viscous coupling as in all the MT AWD systems. The turbo engine in the turbo legacy is essentially the one from the sti, and I haven't heard of any issues with it. DAlgie
Yes, I noticed that the weight had gone up a bit too... Any idea what's different with this engine as far as power and the Impreza STI? Just boost level and maybe a smaler intercooler? Legacy777
I really couldn't give you specifics as I don't know, but probably the upper end of the engine, intake, etc will be slightly different, and ECU will have different maps and such. You might want to try nasioc, some of those guys might know.
TimGinCentralNJ
My understanding is, the block itself and the variable timing/exhaust system (among some other things, I'm sure) are both supposed to be new. I've heard absolutely no reliability issues to date, and that includes no dreaded headgasket issues (apparently, that's new to the '05 model year, too). I don't know too much about the Impreza 2.5 (I'm new to Subarus as a whole), but I did drive few WRXs (and 1 Saab-aru) just before driving an '05 LGT 5MT, I can tell you that you'll notice the difference in HP and in torque, even in spite of the extra weight. The car is really nice, too, overall. It's no rally car, but it is a damn-quick, nice-handling, decently roomy sports sedan. At the last minute, I opted for an OBXT for the added room/versatility (and because we now have 2 dogs). My advice: Don't drive one unless you're planning on buying one! Just my $.02 Tim G.
