Kallor
Hi. I have a justy/trendy 1.0 which I've had for 4 years. It's been great until now, but lately it's started behaving badly. It runs fine for a while after I start it, maybe 5 mins, then starts jumping. Also the rpm counter is going nuts, jumping all over the place. At first I thought the wire for the rpm counter was broken, but it works fine as long as the car itself is running without problems. I've tried changing the plugs, air filter, rotor, distr. cap, fuel filter. I was going to change the coil, but couldn't find a suitable one without having to import one, which is expensive. It's winter now where i live (northern norway), but its been everywhere from +5 to -10 degrees celcius, and I haven't noticed any change in the behavior of car during this time. It's still the same 5 mins before it starts jumping. I'm seriously thinking about just giving up on the old thing and buying a new car, but it's been so fantastic the 4 years I've had it. Any hints would be apreciated. I've seen others with similar problems, but not the rpm counter spasms, which is what's really throwing me off. Esteban32696
Does sound like the coil. After a coil warms up, they can start causing problems ,if weak. Surely, you can find an aftermarket coil, in Norway, that is not expensive. Most 12V coils are nearly alike. I just put a used Justy coil on a generator, til I was able to get a new one. The new, generic $18 coil looked exactly like the Justy coil.If you can't find one, & a U.S. generic coil will work, I could send one to you. Hi. I have a justy/trendy 1.0 which I've had for 4 years. Esteban32696
Picture of a standard , more expensive, 12v coil on this site below. A standard coil here, is about $18. If you cannot find one, send your address [ city, country, & code number, & I will check shipping costs to you. http://amos.shop.com/amos/cc/main/ccn_search/st/12%20volt%20coil/sy/productsx/ccsyn/260/prd/8149197/ccsid/316436705-16598/ga/1/adtg/01260536
85Sub4WD
Is it Carbed or FI? If it is carbed may be choke issues, if FI may be a bad temp/O2/MAF sensor - try pulling codes. I think the coil is the most likely problem though.
Kallor
Thanks for the replies. I did find a generic 12v coil for about $20, so will try that tomorrow. It seems to be about the same shape and size, but it's lacking a resistor or something that's on my original coil. Will let you know how it goes. oh, and it's carbed . Kallor
Ok. Changed the coil, only real difference is that it's harder to start now. My orig. coil was probably a 9V one that gets 12V when I start to create a more powerful spark, then the resistor makes it 9V when the engine is on. That's no big deal, it still starts with little fuss. However, it did not make my problem go away I hadn't replaced the fuel filter afterall, I bought it, but never got around to changing it. Where excactly is the fuel filter located in an 87 Justy? Is it hard to change?
Esteban32696
EASY to change. Look under drivers side, about directly under fuel filler. There is a small panel held by 3-10mm bolts. Remove that & it hangs down, showing filter & fuel pump. Clamp off 2 hoses to filter, replace, remove clamps. rady to go. I do not understand the " 9V. 12V coil description. I have never seen anything but a regular 12v coil & no resistor.Put in a GOOD can of carb cleaner in tank, afterwards. Ok. Changed the coil, only real difference is that it's harder to start now. Kallor
Finally got some free time to change the fuel filter. But I'm stuck again. The hoses just wont let go of the old fuel filter. It's like the plastic has bonded to the filter or something. And if I should get them off, getting them onto the new filter seems even worse. Is there any trick to it, like heating them with some warm water?

I had the same thing happen to me, and the best thing in the world is drip a little bit of gas or zippo lighter fluid on it, then twist. other than my first thought of heating it with a ligher... would have read about it on the darwin awards
