Frank B
Has anyone had any ill effects after removing the air valves, check valves, suction valves, or whatever those things are called. I just plugged mine up and removed the hoses from the air cleaner to see if it would stop the stumble it had, and of course it did! Just concerned about the catalytic converter getting too hot??????? Has anyone had success finding plugs to screw in the bungs? Also, has anyone experienced a false reading from the voltmeter on the dash? Mine is reading about 5 volts too low. Any quick fixes? 86 Hatch, 1.8 4 speed 4WD
85Sub4WD
I made aluminium plates that bolt onto the cylinder head where the ASV tube enters it, worked great. Repairing/replacing the ASV's will also eliminate the problem (though it is hard to find good ASV's in a junkyard).
BobBrumby
The only reason why dumpong the emmission stuff would cause a performace increase is if there's a vaac leak. If your talking about the air injection system for the exhuast u can block it with just a spark plug in where the silencer used to go (you remove the silence first, its the big balck plastic bally thing and some plastic tubes attached extra tubes attached). I pulled all the emssion junk when the holley went on and the only vac lines you need are brake booster (off manifold), maybe vac selector for cabin heat (off manifold) and vac advance (from dizzy to ported vac port on carb. The rest you can remove and plug. As to its legality, i recon i could spin a storey to get be out of the sheet. If you have a multimeter you could try getting a voltage off the battery while its running it should be 12-14volts. Yeh its probably just rusty ground or dodgy meter. If you altinator was only puttin out 5 volts you wouldnot get very far in the car before the battery ran out. Good Luck

Good Luck The voltage output is fine, 14.04V, but the guage reads 5 volts less, still moves up and down with a load, just reads low. I'll check the grounds. I did plug the hoses, and it runs a lot better. I do plan on triple checking all the vaccum hoses, and plan on installing a weber so then I'll gut 'er.
