Ratty2Austin
ok, so I am working on this 86 SPFI GL-10 sedan for someone, I have already lapped the valves in, and put new head gaskets and new timing belts on the thing... but when I put it all back together (it had to be repaired because it overheated and craked a head, and the valve seat came out of the head!) and now it runs, but it is hard to start, and it also sputters and stalls easily, and it also idles high sometimes... it has very odd, and intermittent problems, but the guy wants it to run good before I return it to him... anybody in the area a SPFI expert? I also have been having trouble setting the timing, I have a gun, but not sure if it is working properly, or if the engine is giving erratic responce... but anyways, I would like to get this car done, but cant seem to figure out whats causing it to run weird! !!! GLCraig
When you were checking the timing, did you remember to connect the 2 test mode (green) connectors? They are up on the fire wall on the drivers side. Also on the timing belts when you have the flywheel at the center of the three marks, is one cam sprocket at 0degs and the other at 180degs
Ratty2Austin
well, i know the timing belts are correct, cause it does run good sometimes, and revs up like its supposed to... but, there are 2 wires up there in the corner, but they are not green.... in fact, they dont even match in color, but they do plug into eachother, and when they are unplugged, the car runs worse.... so right now they are left plugged in! i am not sure what to think about that one! its messed up i think!
