ausubaru92
I am seriously considering re-fabricationg my Y pipes but would like to know what would be the best revs range to tune it to Ive been told to make the Y with sliding pipes and with the car running at a set revs setting, change the length of the pipes until the revs increase (caused by tuned scavanging of the exhaust) Would I be best off with the revs in the range of cruising at 100km/h in 5th (I dont have a Tach) or should I be in a lower gear/ higher revs? BTW, At 100km/h in 5th, what revs does your ea82 5sp d/r do??? Thanks
ballitch
is 100 kph like 62.5 mph.......if so then at 62 mph my 86' GL 4WD D/R was at like 3250 rpm's. ~Josh~
MilesFox
you would want your exhaust to be torquiest around 2500 rom and free flowey to 5500 rpm. the stock y is pretty right on, but i like to use a glasspack at the y pipe rear flange and dump it out to fat pipe. if you put a glasspack that gives you enough backpressure/exhaust pulse to let the y scavenge as it wants to. hiway rpm at 60 mph 100kph iwould be between 3000 and 3500 rpm for that speed range. you would want to hav eplenty of throttle responsea to that rpm so high flow would be the advantage as it takes less gas pedal to get moving from that rpm. 3500 is right smack in the middle of the power curve
Flowmastered87GL
It all depends on how you drive... my brat with a mostly stock system, but no muffler had WAY more torque than my 87 GL with upsized pipes (2.0 inch to cat 2.25 to muffler and then 2.5 out) My GL is WAY rev happier though... and I generally keep it at 3000 or above so it all depends on how you drive. If you like high revs like I do, then 2.0-2.25-2.5 is a good start. Any bigger isnt reasonable though as my bottom end is starting to lack at this point. Plenty of top end though If you want bottom end maybe try 1.75 to the cat and then 2.0 back from there.
torxxx
62 mph = 3000 rpms in 5th gear.... I got the stock exhaust system with a gutted muffler (cut open, removed contents and welded it back up leaving some small holes) pulls great from 3200 to 5500 RPMS
ausubaru92
My main goal is to achieve more low end power and torque around the cruising speed because my car goes fine until i reach hills, then i loose lots of speed. My intention is 1.75 heads to Y (equal length),. then 2 inch there back I just have to buy some exhaust pipe and a premade Y and i can start
