EA82 Turbo Exhaust Qs

Recommended Posts

Hello. I have my motor back together (reseal) and I went to put the X over pipe on, I noticed it was fubar'd. All tore up and holes. So, I know that I could just get another from people on the boards...but I would like to make my own. With 2" I.D. pipe. Well the question is...should I make it the same as the original, or what? I've seen people do some crazy stuff....like use the same length of pipe for each port to the turbo. Does this really matter, to have each port go through the same amount of pipe before it goes to the turbo? I was also thinking of using 1.5" for the DISTY side to the turbo side port and then 2" to the turbo. Well, let me know what ya'll think. Thanks.

If you are looking into adding to the engine's power producing potential, I can almost bet someone will say(other than myself), to purchase the TWE header and downpipe setup. Only problemo is, is that it is very expensive for the setup, but well worth it at the same time.

for a low production run, the prices are killer low.

$399 for the header, and $199 for the DP. DP prices are VERY competitive with DP prices for the newer turbo subies, and the header is actually on par with other equal/tuned length ones for the EJ turbo subies. GOOD headers for the WRX/STi are in the $1,000 range.

the low production run for the EA82T is a STEAL at $399.

tig is not really needed but its nice

if your good at mig or even stick then you can do it

i mean hell back before robotic welders and such and mig welding they actually used real people to weld cars together on the assembly lines and they used stick welders... unless i am mistaken

Heretic.. quit spreading your lies!

That is somewhat important. I helps smooth out the exhaust pulses that turn the turbo.

2" is just plain too big for the uppipe section. Cobb tuning was recently in town showing off their new aftermarke STi stuff... Even that uppipe is under 2 inches. IIRC, the ID of the new Cobb uppipe was only 43mm. Considering our smaller displacement and lower compression, I would think that 1.5 inch would be better for exhaust gas velocity and spool up.

Thanks...i was thinking of using 2" tube...for the whole car...but a 20'ft bar is $2.50 a foot. $50 a bar. I'll look into 1.75" tube...it's .095 wall which would make the I.D. roughly 1 5/8 ". I am kinda limited to the die set my work has...

Thanks...I'll post pics once it is done...if I ever get it done.
