What are rules for PAP, Northend Seattle?

Never been to Pull a Part. Do I bring my own tools? Do they stock parts they've pulled?

I need, for an '87 Subaru GL Wagon, Carb'd:

= A gulp valve, a.k.a anti-backfire valve

= Relay for the rear defroster

= Driverside corner light assembly, front

= Driverside corner light assembly, rear

I figure I ought to be able to find these parts, though I am not certain how to check an anti-backfire valve to see if it works. Blow into it...?

Many thanks,

John

Calebz said most of it. Admission is $1; $25 for an annual pass that's good at all three locations. They do not stock any parts; as a matter of fact they can't tell you what's on the car unless YOU go out and look (costs a $1); you can borrow an available wheel barrel if available (be prepared to leave your keys so they can be assured you'll bring it back); parts are "as is, where is" but you have 30 days to check it out for operation or fit and you can bring it back within that time frame WITH a receipt and the colored mark on the part for full refund or exchange; they can check what's in the yard by make and model and tell you what row it's in and the color and the year--nothing else. They are not allowed to sell you a catalytic converter.

You should be able to find the parts you need at Lynnwood; Everett might have them but has far fewer Subarus in the yard. Definitely bring your own tools and keep an eye on them; they've been known to "walk."

Ya, about the discounts, odds and ends like small screws of fasteners they generally dont care about, but dont load up your toolbox with em or anything.

Its funny... everytime I go in there and get 1 or 2 tiny things I show em to the counter guys and they just say take em. But other times I want something like a bumper and they try to charge for the turn signal and stuff integrated into it. So be careful what your parts are bolted to, if you dont need something attached to your part, consider removing it as they MAY try to charge you. Other times they dont care and just give you the parts... I can never tell what kind of mood they are in and have actually had to walk out before because they tried to itemize an EA82 front bumper as a steel bumper PLUS a plastic bumper cover.... $47.50? I think not, I offered $25 take it or leave it. I left it for them to haul back out to the yard.

Oh and ask other board members how I dress... the PAP doesnt allow any open toed shoes! No sandals!! (I hate that rule, but its for safety)

I didnt know the JYs up thataways charged admission. That sucks.

I usually like going to the pick n pulls just to walk around and see what new stuff has come in. Thats because they dont know whats what and whats where. Very unorganized operations we have down here.

Although, if you look hard enough, you can usually find $2 worth of change in each of the new arrivals.

They probably justify the $1 charge as making up for the amount of crud that does walk out in pockets, and probably helps pay for their insurance/lightbill on the slow days (winter)

Speaking of getting dinged, I bought a 4spd d/r tranny at lynnwood- after struggling to get it out by close on a workday, they charged me for both the trans and a transfer case- $25+ I had not expected to pay. That really ticked me off but after the work I had done I wasn't about to drop it.

Depends on who is checking you out. I've been there and been charged for the transfer case and other times not. The luck of the draw I guess. I'm about to find out again soon since I'm looking for a transmission.

gotta love th ehuge free admission yards that have been in opperation since the dawn of automotive history. the place i go to has everything from old army jeeps and other stuff outta the 50's to subies and other imports, seem to have the most hondas of any yard ive seen.

the place is huge, as you crest the hill aproaching it, you see one corner of the yard and say "damn that place is huge, then you pull in and see the other 3/4 of it.
