Myxalplyx
Hello, I know this is as simple as putting some of your shoes on but I'm the one who needs 'EA82T for dummies'. I purchased a manual boost controller sometime back. I think I asked Will how to install it but lost the instructions. So instead of being selfish, I decided to ask the group just so all the timid modders can hide in the darkness while reading this thread while I get flamed. Anyways, here's a pic of the Ebay manual boost controller that I want to install. It even comes with instructions that seem simple and precise. Here's my dillema: I'm not sure if I hooked up all of my vacuum hoses right after installing all the Techworkds (TWE) parts. The wastegate has a vacuum hose going to the passenger side shock tower mounted thingy and a vacuum hose is coming from that back to the 'wastegate valve' if that's what you call it. I'm assuming the thing I have the wastegate vacuum hoses connected to is a pressure sensor of some sort or pressure something. *If it's just for the turbo light (turbo sensor), I'm going to feel like an idiot here...sorry* Anyways, where do I hook up the manual boost controller in between these parts? Do I hook it up before the sensor thing or after? After installing this, I think I'm done for now. I'll crank it up to 10-11psi and perhaps go to the dyno tomorrow if I can get some sleep. I was not going to do this until I cleaned my injectors and got an EGT gauge but something crazy happened today. I left the dealership and for one second in 1st gear, the car shot up to 19psi of boost. *(I had just got my exhaust leak fixed)* As you can imagine, I almost giggled like a school girl while a feeling of panic shot through me, when I looked at the boost gauge. I knew something was wrong by how the car threw me back in the seat. It never did it again after that and I don't know why it did it in the first place. Currently, the car runs steadily between 6-7psi of boost. I want to take it up to 10-11psi. Any help would be appreciated.

TheSubaruJunkie
Dunno, but i hope someone helps you cause I wanna know too Maybe someone can go get a pic of their MBC installed on their EA82T. That would help alot. Also, what did you pay for that MBC? I was going to make one, but would preffer to buy one already made (dont feel like messing with springs etc....) -Brian
garner
Myx, The basic idea is to place the MBC between the wastegate solinoid and where ever it is getting it's signal. The MBC lets a bit of the pressure bleed off so even if you are boosting to 10-11 (you'll like this too ) the waste gate is only "seeing" the stock 6 or 7psi. My install bypasses the boost sensor and overboost sensor. My MBC is between the line coming out the outlet of the turbo and the wastegate solinoid. make sense? garner

I'll test it out later today.
Myxalplyx
BTW: Here's a good article for some of you folks to read. It's a test of boost controllers conducted by Sport Compact Car Magazine. It's one of the reasons why I purchased this simple, cheap but affective manual boost controller. http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/tech/0207scc_boostcontrol/ Caboobaroo, The one you purchased is in there as well. 4WDFrenzy
Hey Myx, I have a manual boost controller installed as well. I have a line coming from the boost reference nipple(located either on the compressor snail or near the outlet of the compressor housing depending on which model VF7 you have), and goes to the inlet of the MBC. Then I have another line going from the outlet of the MBC to the wastegate actuator. I currently have mine adjusted to 10psi, but I'll probably re-adjust it to 11psi(highest boost that I've been able to run without hitting fuel cut) later on today. I hope this helps. If you need pics, shoot me an email and I can take a few and email them to you. Patrick
Myxalplyx
If you need pics, shoot me an email and I can take a few and email them to you. Patrick Thank you Patrick! I have mine installed. I was playing with boost around the neighborhood. I have it hooked up similar (I think) to what you were saying). Vacuum boost reference nipple to MBC inlet. MBC outlet to that pressure sensor on shock tower. Pressure sensor to the Wastegate It seems to work really well. Really, really sensitive. Between turning the knob from a '9' position to a '12' position will make the boost jump up to 17-18psi or so. I have it set between 9-10psi. I'm going to leave it here so I can some dyno runs in. Today is 'Dyno day' at the dyno shop which means tons of people are up there. On top of this, I my wife wants to go to the mall......NOW. Furthermore, I have to go to work in 4 hours. But I'm still going to try to get my 3 runs in. Even still, it'll be so busy, I don't know when my runs will emailed to me. Uggghhhh! I gotta think of something. I'm out! Oh yeah! I misplaced my digital camera so I couldn't take pics earlier. I'll post up so peeps can see. I'm learning a lot. Thanks guys!
