85Sub4WD
reseal/replace oil pump - it's not that hard to do at all, and it will fix your problem - might take the oppertunity to change all those leaky front seals (and timing belts) as long as both cars are 4WD I believe the clutch is interchangeable, but you might as well buy a new one (given labor and everything - OEM lasts the longest) - don't forget to have the flywheel turned when you do the clutch change
Skip
replacing the oil pump involves taking the entire front of the engine apart from removing the rad (to gain some room to work) right down to removing the front crank drive pulley and timing belt drive gears. The T-belts and covers must come off also. doable yes, easy?? I guess that's relative. I would try changing the oil to Castrol 20w/50 and a half pint of MMO. Much easier and this solution (excuse the intended pun) has worked for many. but if you are going to "yank the lump" to do a clutch job, do it then. In my opinion - using a used clutch disc is well "the thrifty man oft spends the most - time" along with "Do it once and do it right" come's to mind. I guess that's relative. well, when I did mine was after it had been front-ended when a moron pulled out in front of my mom going the wrong way - so compared to the bodywork I was doing at the time, it was VERY easy for me, and I already had the front end apart Skip also has a good suggestion for a temporary fix, but realize that the pump still needs service I generally do not run more than 15w-40 b/c my lash adjusters start sticking open, but with Marvel Mystery Oil you should be fine
Vegablade
i hate to admit it but i think that you are right, i need a new oil pump, because it used to run fine before and even after an oil change, and im using 10w-30 its still ticking and the pressure is all over. IMHO you prolly don't need a new oil pump - just a re-seal. I could be wrong, but usually a re-seal (and make sure to put a dab o' gasket goo on the two block mating surfaces where the mickey mouse o-ring site) will work wonders for oil pressure and lifter noise.
