lastchance
Hey guys, I recently bought a distributor from ShawnW and am going to install it tomorrow. Is there anything I need to know? Any special tricks or precautions I should take? Thanks, Daniel
subiemech85
make sure the vac. advance unit works on the replacement BEFORE you install it!!!!! install it at tdc #1 you can find tdc #1 by pulling iut #1 sparkplug and sticking your finger in the hole so you can feel air pressure, then make sure the pointer is at 0* now pull out the dist. the rotor should be pointed between #1 and #3!!!!! then slide in the replacement, and set timing with advance line disconnected and plugged after timing is set, hook up advance line to manifold, and the timing should be 20*+, now increase rpm and see if advance decreases
naru
now increase rpm and see if advance decreases Advance should increase w/increasing rpm,not decrease. Good advice re checking the vacuum advance. No need to fool around pulling spark plugs to put #1 at TDC. Just mark the rotor position relative to the housing before pulling the original disty and install the new one w/the same relative orientation. lastchance
Naru: That's what I thought dude, I replaced the disty in my first car/subaru but it was like 7 years ago...I remember my stepdad (mechanic) telling me to mark the position of the rotor in relation to the cap. Thanks guys, Daniel
