moshem74
hi i took my car to aplace to clean the carb, now the car its like something alse...driving a lot better, and i mean a lot.!!! i tought maby to add another fuel filter, in that place they told me it's good to add one. i want to add another fuel filter before the carb, the gas that you put in the gas station is not so clean and also the car it's old so maby to add an extra fuel filter will clean better the gas that comming into the carb. now, will it effect the feul pressure? i mean will it effect the fuel pump and will make the pressure less or harm with any way the feul pump because its like something that stop the fuel pressure in some way , no? thank you all for your fast answer. moshe. ausubaru92
Im not an expert on this but in my opinion, the second fuel filter would have to be a finer filter, its pointless filtering something twice with the same size filter and then why not just replace the factory one with a finer one
moshem74
hi what is a finer filter, and is it make any diferent? can i add something like this before the carb(the same as before the feul pump? Typical External Fuel Filter
ausubaru92
Finer as in smaller holes in the filter materal and will let less dirt through.
85Sub4WD
Adding a filter CAN be good, but it also adds to the resistance on the fuel line, so I would not put more than two, and nothing too fine for filtration.
PoorManzImpreza
I have added a fuel filter close to the carb as I've had the experience of replacing the stock filter and still having gunk in the fuel line caused by the ancient filter that had started to dissintigrate..so even after replacing the filter in the stock location I had to take the carb apart *AGAIN* to clean it... so I just added a filter close to the carb..problem solved
archemitis
stock, it came with two filters, one under the car, by the pump, and another right on the firewall. sometimes people take out the second one on the firewall, under the hood. two should be good(stock), three is overkill. thealleyboy
Old school gearheads used to do this all the time. The issue is your fuel pump and how "finicky" it is (not as big an issue when they used mechanical pumps). An older electric pump may not like it, as the second filter introduces additional resistance, as stated above. If you change both filters once a year, you should be ok. May as well clean up the fuel sytem too while you are at it. If you let the fiters go too long, the resistance will build up quickly and wear out an older fuel pump. good luck, John
