remote start/keyless entry and may be alarm -- CRIMESTOPPER?

I'm interested in keyless entry + remote start but alarm wouldn't hurt if it would cost up to 20$ more :-)

 

I've searched the forum but couldn't find an answer to my question: is CRIMESTOPPERs any good? They are sold for really cheap on ebay so I thought why the heck not to improve my Legacy L 95 which seems to do not have any remote features but has a central lock

 

If they are ok, then which model because there seems to be quite a few of them. Does any one has any experience?

 

or I should get something else (more expensive)?

I helped Syphon install a Crimstopper 2000 in his '93 Turbo Legacy Sedan.

 

Its actually pretty straight forward, but you will have to buy a cheap 2 wire actuator to work the drivers door lock. Factory there is just a switch, not an actuator.

 

We bought the alarm off of Millionbuy.com.

To work the actuator from the alarm keyfob, you need to use a group of relays. Syphon ended up going to a stereo/alarm shop to get the special relays and wiring it himself. For mine, i found this: http://www.logjamelectronics.com/relaypack.html

 

This alarm we used didn't have remote start, but millionbuy sells a crimestopper that does: http://www.millionbuy.com/crics2011rs.html

 

This may require a set of relays aswell... so make sure to research on the crimestopper website: http://www.crimestopper.com/index3.html

I was amazed the Alarm was so cheap. I thought it would be a POS but it turned out really well. It has all the features I need and I haven't had any problems with it to date (except me continually pressing the damn button while its in my pocket!).

 

The hardest part was getting the actuator in place on the door (although it's WAY easier on a GL than it is on a Legacy) and then getting the relays all set up (Make sure you get the correct relays. Apparently there double throw and single throw relays are marked exactly the same and look exactly the same, you need to look at the wiring diagram on the relay itself to make sure they're correct).
