to use an ea81, or an ea82. i think thats what distinguishes them.

my ea81 had a single u joint

im runing an ea82 with the double u joint, cut in half, and extension welded in.

i went with the dual u joint, cuz its easier to lengthen, and 2 must be better than one right?

and i thought these things were some hardened, superduper strong piece of engineering. but... since i hacked through it with a hand held hacksaw, as easy as the other mild steel i have lying around, id say its nothing special. and its hollow...

anyway, is my asumption that 2 is better than one correct, or would the single u joint piece be stronger?

I used an EA81 cut and spliced, then welded. Being an FNG with a welder I was considering also drilling and driving in a split pin. Just an added failsafe.

Anyone else consider this?

I did something similar where the top U-joint connects to the steering shaft. I couldn't get the U-joint far enough up the shaft to mate the keyway (?) so I drilled through the U-joint and shaft and put a bolt through the hole after I tightened the collar. If I ever have the linkage out of the car again I will likely pin the extension to the cut shaft as well.

i used one for my 3 in lift but i extended the piece on the rack, the angle was a little sharp on the double u joint so extending that piece itself sounds like a better idea.

i had taken out my lift and shortened the piece for the rack and had non lifted ea81 with the ea82 u joints
