ej 1.8 "overhaul"

Hey my ej18 from my 93 impreza has got 240+ miles on in 20k of those miles are from me being kinda hard on it (with proper oil changings) now my oil leaks I was wondering how much $$ and time would it take to replace all the oil main seals or would it be better just to buy a 2.0 or 2.2 engine? any opinions or suggestions very welcome

yeah I'm in a similiar situation right now. I bought this car last summer for 500 bucks. I've since done all the body work and had it painted. It runs well now but its pushing 300,000 km. I'm hoping to keep this car for a while, so I'm going to do something with it this summer. I'm just trying to decide if I should do something with my motor or start looking for a 2.2 to rebuild.

As far as what to do the 2.2 is supposed to be an relatively easy swap granted you have some wiring experience. A two liter swap would also entail upgrading your brakes, suspension, driveline etc.

I've been considering putting my existing 1.8L heads on a 2.2 block. This set-up offers a better compression ratio and more power. (so I'm told) This also allows you to use the stock exhaust.

Did you guys come to any conclusions on this topic?  I'm looking to buy a 1993 Impreza with the 1.8 in it and it will either need a new engine, a rebuild, or a swap.

What are your thoughts?

Just keep it. My aunt is driving the same ej18 Impreza for years with zero issues. 260,000 miles and I owned that car before she did and treated it like a rally car.
