RedLegacyGT
Will a STi motor go into a 00 Legacy GT, and if so what kinds of mods will it require? I'm sure the exhaust will have to be redone, but other than that would it work?
ballitch
unless you wanted to get RA gear sets for your tranny, you would demolish your trans, and your rear diff. It can be swapped in but it is very wise to use the sti trans and rear diff, as well as the WHOLE driveline, and the wiring would have to be done and so on and so forth. ~Josh~

Figured it could be something major like that. My problem is that I love the Legacy body styling, but don't like the lack of performance upgrades available for it. Oh well.... RedLegacyGT
Many of the Impreza Mods will work on the Legacy as well. I know the engine is pretty much the same, but with a lot of add-ons. The body is another place I'm running into problems with though. Its next to impossible to find a body kit for the Legacy. I've found a couple, but nowhere near as many as I've found for the WRX's.
ballitch
you can keep the body, you just have to ditch anyhitng that attaches to the motor, transmission or rear diff.........i know your thinking, is that all...........bah....thats nothin. go to nasioc and post the thread and they will give you a better answer than i can. but that is just what ive learned from that forum about this subject. ~Josh~

Let me know if there's a particular product out there you're looking for, I can probably get it for you. I'm sure the exhaust will have to be redone, but other than that would it work? the STi motor will go, but you need a engine subframe from a WRX, older legacy turbo, Forester XT, or STi with the matching front swaybar. The transmission does not need to be from a STi, but I would advise getting one from a Legacy 2.5GT, Forester XT, or Saab 9-2X. Lighter than the STi 6spd, tougher than the WRX 5spd by a hell of alot, and guess what... It eats alot less power than the 6spd. The Shop FXT would make the same crank HP as my STi with equal mods, but my STi was down some 20whp. Given this I would look for a wrecked forester XT with intact driveline to buy and convert everything. Or simply do the smart thing and drop your money on a new LGT. ballitch
i thought that the new 6 speed has like 85% effeciency, and has less power loss than any other subie tranny made before. i read that somewhere, probably nabisco. ~Josh~
