subawoohoo
Yea, ok, i had a little plan to swap the ea81 from my 82 wagon (Dr 4spd) into my 80 hatch. (ea71 SR 4spd w/ top-mount starter.) from researching i cant find a way to mate the ea81 to the ea71 tranny so, can i just swap the engine AND tranny between the two?? Since the wheelbase's of the older roos are all the same, i should be able to without worrying about the driveshaft right? And even if the trannys are slightly different lengths, i could just swap drive shafts as well. correct? Is all this good so far? also since the engine has its own little computer, how much electrical would i NEED to swap? Thanks y'all. Tyler J. GLCraig
This swap should be pretty straight forward. The transmission length is not an issue since The EA71 4wd transmission that was used in 1980 is longer then the version used in the 70's and it's the same length or close enough to the length of the EA81 D/R transmission that you don't need a new drive line. Now you will need to use the driveline from your hatchback because the hatchback dose have a shorter wheelbase then a wagon.
subawoohoo
Thank you GLcraigGT. i figured since mine is a ea71, but still has all the other ea81 suspension parts, the transmission wouldnt be too different if at all. Does anyone have any info on the computer controlls or any electrical issues? my ea71 has electronic ignition, but i think thats the only real difference other than the computer. Anything else? Thanks a bunch.
