Alf
Hello all, I'm back after a long time (OK, it's only 2 months ). Now we are just doing the bodywork, and when it's finished, I want to install a new (well, at least for me) steering wheel. The original is worn down very well, that's why I want to change. I don't have any ideas what kind of wheel I want yet, what looks cool in the blue EA-82 interior (the dashboard is black, but everything else is blue), and what is great to grip. I'm interested in other Subaru wheels also, I don't want to buy aftermarket wheel if not necessary. So please post your pics about your custom steering wheels! Thanks, Alf

subyrally
you always let your passenger drive?? beat me to it. the real question is how do you get an adaptor for the wheel?
Alf
the real question is how do you get an adaptor for the wheel? It's easy for me at least, I have some friends in here, and their daily job is milling and turning (lathing). I only have to get some raw material and they will do the adaptor in 2 hours for 5 beers. Caboobaroo
ARG! I need to get some new interior shots of my RX. I got a custom steering wheel and a B&M shift handle on the shifter since I finished putting the manual tranny in. I'll post some pics when I get a couple later today I hope:D

MorganM
beat me to it. the real question is how do you get an adaptor for the wheel? You make one?
Caboobaroo
You make one? Use an old EA82 steering wheel and cut the hub out and turn it down on the lathe so its round and then line up the steering wheel and measure where you want to drill the holes for it to bolt to, tap the holes and BLAM, an adapter:D
avatar382
How hard would it be to get the horn or work after swapping out the steering wheel?
carfreak85
My setup is a Momo adapter for old subes and a Momo wheel (Its even from 84, so its period correct! ).
mcbrat
How hard would it be to get the horn or work after swapping out the steering wheel? the MOMO adapter for the gen1/gen2 soobs (7302) has a connector that the horn wire plugs into (provided the steering wheel you are putting on has a horn.....) Alf
Thanks for the pics to everyone! I think I'll go with the Momos or the Grants.

That's awesome! And this adapter will work with any momo wheel, right? Only thing is, I would feel a little guilty taking out the stock steering wheel from an XT, the steering wheel gives it so much character... avatar382
By the way, an XT would qualify as "Gen 2" right? I hope the adapter would fit....
Caboobaroo
nope the XT is a gen 3 car. Gen 1's are the 1400cc, 1600cc round headlight cars MINUS the STD which was a gen 2 car '80-'89 EA81 and fatcase EA71s. Gen 3 is the EA82 cars... avatar382
Hmm... so maybe a steering wheel adapter for an Impreza will fit the XT? Or would the early Impreza's be "Gen 4"?

Imprezas are EJ body styles and would be considered gen 4's I guess.
