Stripping Loyale; Logisitcal Problems...

Recommended Posts

Get'n a free Loyale. Good thing is it runs okay and I'll be able to drive it to my garage. I obviously wanna strip all parts I can use before I send it off to the junkyard buuuuut.... How do I get it out of my garage then ?_?

I mean I'd like to get EVERYTHING I could but then how do I get it out of my garage so the flat bed can winch it up on? It's too cold and some wise guy would call the cops before I stripped it in the street.

Also whats the spline count on front DOJs for a Loyale AT 4WD no-turbo? If its the wrong count for my 5MT DR I wont even bother pulling them.

Ideas? Thanks !_!

hey Heep 70 and I sort of did this same thing we just put a big floof juch under the rear and put 2x6 lumber under the front ball joints like skies and pulled her right out then got her on the trailer with a comealong ang away he went this is assuming that your shop and drive are cement or asfault :headbang: LT

AT should be 23 spline, MT should be 25. Others will be happy to tell you if I am wrong. Otherwise, take a look first.

If you strip it down to the last bolt, these things are light. I'd say that 4 guys could carry the car out of your garadge. I stripped a 3-door, and I could lift up either end so that it was pivioting on the other by myself. I realize lifting the car takes a bit more, but I'm not all that strong, so 4 guys could do it easy.

im pretty sure the axles thould be the same, i just swapped on both front driveaxles from my 87 automatic ,parts car to my 85 d/r 5spd and they fit perfect, as as for dragging it out i dont see it being much of a job when i stripped an astro van i had i dragged it outta my garage over the dirt outside of it with a little fwd plymouth laser with a 1.8 in it lol

If you are going to keep everything, why not have a spare unibody too? Id just keep the whole car. I cant stand to let anything EA82 suby related (or anything suby related) leave and go to waste.

Not possible. (read: wife wont have it) She already hates the fact I got it. She expects it to be gone in a week :(

Hook up a tow strap and drag the sucker out of the garage with you lifter suby

I doubt my town home association would appriciate me tearing up the assphault drive way they poured last summer. My neighbors already complained I walked on it the day after it was laid; something tells me they would call the association and whine about it. Then I'd prolly have to pay for a whole new driveway in this wonderful world of civil suits.

I'm pretty sick of associations and neighbors that need to mind their own buisness. I swear if they say one more thing about my cat going outside I'm just going to bring the cat, litter box and food over and say "Here, you're so worried about it's well being why dont you take it"

Give it to me and Sarah, then when we find her a nice MT D/R one (and some money, she just bought a viola) we'll strip it at my parents place, lots of space there!

It's not free anymore :)

Tow Dolly: $45

Gas: $30

Pissed off wife: $50

Completly wasting a Saturday afternoon and the entire day Sunday moving a "free" Loyale: Priceless

If you really want it show up with a trailer/dolly and $100 in hand. :drunk:

I hate homeowner assosiations. I want to be the one to deceide what I can and can't do on my own property and to my house.

Tell me about it man! I had to jump through so many flaming hoops just to rebuild my freak'n deck last year. Between the city statutes/regulations/inspections and the home owners association inpsections/regulations it added days onto the proccess and much more money to the bottom line cost. :banghead:

Morgan:

Here's where a good junkman can save the day. Most wont touch anything that doesn't roll on two wheels. You might get lucky cause scrap metal is pretty high right now.

On my next scrapper, I'm going to try a new approach. I'm going to buy a thick 4x8 sheet of sheathing, and cutout holes at each corner for ropes. I'm thinking that the unibody can rest on the sheathing, and it could be secured by ropes in a crisscross pattern. The whole mess should slide accross the asphalt without causing any damage. The junkman should be able to pull it onto a flatbed no sweat.

You'll be out the cost of the sheathing and rope, but you'll be able to pull everything from the undercarriage. And hopefully, not hear too many gripes from the junkman...

good luck, John

Ahhh yes back on topic; thank you.

I was thinking of this idea also. Didnt know what would be strong enough to hold upto anything puncturing it and digging into the assphault.

What is this... sheathing? Only sheath I know of is the one you keep big knives in :)

a sheet of white teflon would would too. Its stuff we use on the bottom of airboats. The stuff is tough as hell. I watched my buddy drive his airboat down a gravel road doin about 25 mph. They are getting like 5-7 years out of this stuff. its kinda spendy, so I'd just get like 2 4 foot pieces. Just enough to get under the frame rails, front and back.

Anywho, aluminum isnt going to eat up asphalt. its not hard enough of a substance. we drag stripped cars in and out of our shop all day and it hasnt hurt the concrete yet.

plus, if it's completely stripped, it won't (shouldn't) be heavy enough.

when I had a dodge caravan pulled onto a flatbed (it didn't have wheels) it barely gouged the gravel, let alone pavement or cement

Asphault or concrete? Big difference :( I could go do a burn out in my driveway and tear up the asphault with rubber tires. On concrete I'd just be leaving tire particles everywhere.

I saw the marks on concrete that a stripped XT6 left when Arch had it removed. Looked like it would have gouged asphault :( This Loyale wont be completly stripped bare; it will still have engine short block, prolly the tranny, all glass, seats, etc. I don't have room to completly strip it.

.... maybe if we get a really good snow and some ice :brow:

Keep the ideas coming guys! I got time to figure something out :)

if it's a solid runner, I can have it out of you're driveway by the weekend. but if it needs a trailer/dolly then...no, it needs to be a reliable daily driver for 6 months or so, but this summer, we can strip it at my parents, and I have some connections to get rid of it then (I'll probably be scrapping what's left of the GL then too, and I know a guy with a 2 car flatbed), flag me down on MSN if you see me, and we can talk more about it

If it was a solid runner I wouldnt have botherd with the tow dolly :) Its definatly spun a bearing or connecting rod completly disconnected from piston. No oil pressure and a real bad knock. I made it about 20 miles before it gave up on me.

With an engine it would be a sweet daily driver. Never seen an old Subaru with interior in this good of shape; I'm talking flawless here. Rust isnt bad either; just in some corners and typical starting points. Can't convince the wife that I should swap all my stuff over to it. Sad that it's gonna get stripped and crushed :(

I was totally seriouse when I said show up with a trailer; it would be required :drunk: I doubt you really want it as it requires a short block; I have one to put in but I'm not gonna bother. Wife wants it gone ASAP.

Why aren'tyou going to keep the seats, interior, tranny? Even if you don't you the stuff, there is always someone who could.

And about moving the shell, could you maybe make "skates" for it?

Somthing you can put under each corner of the car just to get it on a trailer of flatbed?

Wish I had the room to keep it all; I would! I'm such a pack rat as it is; I'll keep as much as I possible can. Somethings just take up loads of space like seats :( I have a 2 car garage with my wife's buick, my subaru, camping stuff, son's toys, my work bench, spare part racks (yes, racks of spare parts! :brow: ) large deep freezer, big old trash can.... you get the point; not much room left. I had a big parts giveaway at my house last month and gave away all my EJ22 / EJ22T parts so I got some room cleared for EA82 parts now.

I like the skate/ski idea. I'll prolly just flop her down on some long 2x4's and skid her out enough for the flat bed to winch onto.
