torxxx
SPFI ea82, Will the Vehicle speed sensor, make a engine not idle right? I think its the TPS or the EGR selinoid, but a few guys at work are sayin the VSS. This is what the owner told me: cuz i was gettin a code 33 (speed sensor).. and after lookin into it, it detects the vehicle speed, and tells the computer whats up... which in turn, will do fuel corrections..? help me out here guys
Skip
Possibly the VSS in concert with the idle switch (in the TPS) tell the ECU the car is in a condition where the idle control map should be employed. This would involve the closing of the EGR solenoid.
MilesFox
it will also affect the cruise control
Syonyk
Just from what I've observed, I would expect the VSS to be tied into the idle. The engine will not idle down until the car has come to a stop - it holds a 1000-1200 RPM "flight idle" until the car has stopped, at which point it drops to a significantly lower (500-700 RPM) idle. If the VSS is bad, the logical failsafe mode would be to assume the vehicle is moving (since that's usually what a vehicle is doing). If it never drops into the stationary idle map, yes, you'll have idle problems. Plus, come on. The computer is complaining about the VSS. I'd bet it's probably bad, or at least has come disconnected. -=Russ=-
Snowman
Here's what I found when doing the SPFI conversion on my wagon. I asked about the VSS before converting to see if I needed it, and I believe it was Garner, who put an EA82T in his Brat, that had not connected it up, and it worked fine for him. Now, that's an MPFI fuel system, and I don't know if the VSS plays exactly the same role in that setup. I have noticed in my car that when the vehicle is moving, it kicks the idle up a bit. I would check out the IAC valve (is that the correct acronymn?). Unplug it and see what happens. Also, check the TPS. If I remember correctly, this one has an idle switch in it, and if that's not functioning properly, it could create this very problem.
