chazmataz
from my understanding there are 2 different ratios for the low range in dual range transmission. so my question is: is there a way to tell from the outside what ratio the transmission has (i.e. outside markings or tags)? 85Sub4WD
The regular D/R 5-speed on N/A cars have the same running gear - if the rear diff is 3.9:1 - you have the lower low range. Turbo cars are the only oddballs - the ones that had a low range (I think it was only the RX - but I may be wrong) have a different gearing setup, and a higher low range - I think that includes MPFI N/A cars too. Sorry, don't know about external tags - but the turbo MT trannies all have 25 spline front axles.
chazmataz
thanks. i just had to replace my d/r trnas with one from a wrecking yard and i was just curious if there was a way to check without tearing it apart, such as markins, tags or something else. can't quite tell if it is the same by driving it. bushbasher
if it was out of a non-turbo car it will be the same.
incognito
Ill take a stab at this: 4High = 1:1 ratio 4Low = 1.4:1 ratio
