sunking247
Hi, had the oil changed on my 90 loyale wagon, 155,000 miles on her, and runnng strong. The mechanic told me the master cylinder and rear cylinders needed to be replaced as they were leaking badly and I would eventually lost the ability to stop, which would be a bummer. He qouted me $300 total, parts and labor, is this a fair qoute? It's from Brakes Plus, and they offered to knockoff 10% since I have been getting my oil changed there for a while. Wasteland
Did you look to see if they were indeed leaking badly? I tend to not trust most pit monkeys as some are only trying to flag work that many not NEED to be done. If you trust that they are on the level and you can see that the parts are leaking, the price dosen't sound bad. Maybe call afew other shops in the area and get quots from them. Oh and What's Up! Colorado Rules!!!!!!
lmdew
I have a used master cyclinder and booster if you need them. $30 if you pick it up from Colorado Springs. I could also take a quick look at your car and confirm the problem. Its not a bad price for the repair though. Larry
85Sub4WD
I think that you should be VERY sure that the mechanic is correct before doing everything - only times I have seen rear cylinders fail, there was an immediate and noticeable loss of braking power, b/c brake fluid is a lubricant of sorts. Master cylinder you can check visually.
