wazza34
hi, my name is warren. i have a subaru touring wagon 1983 model, with EA81 Flatfour. Now i need to know if i can fit a later model gear box to the 1983 motor. I have 15.5in rims, which are called "spitfires", fitted with 50series low profile tyres. i also intend on getting a new paint job, changing it from burgundy to a "Starmist" green. I also have a reconditioned motor (40,000 overbore) and have a VDO CD player with two sony explode 6in speakers and two 6x9in speakers in the back. Could anyone help me with my problem. wazza:brow:

Sweet82
Any EA82 tranny, which should be a 5 speed, should bolt right up to your EA81? The problem you would have is the driveline. On the 5 speed you have several drivelines and you'd have to fabricate some mounts. The 4 speed you have has just the one solid driveline. You may be able to use or modify (lenghten or shorten) the 4 sp driveline to work with the 5 sp tranny? What year tranny are you looking to mount? Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--shortened driveline. 01 Forester--standard dirveline.
Urabus-84HBDR
talk to bratsrus1, I am trying to do the same thing with my hatch. He makes a gear box kit or something that bolts right into the old trans, so you keep the driveline and all, though some parts off the five speed would be needed, shifter linkage, etc.
