Maxi road trip starts tomorrow...yeeeeehaw!!!!!

Recommended Posts

This isn’t really meet and greet... but we’re (me and son) flying to Portland, picking up an AWD sedan and road tripping back to VT. The car is supposedly good, but has 156k on the clock. Anyhow, from Portland we’re gonna head south down the coast to San Fran, then take a left on I-80, find Rt 50 near Sacramento (maybe geta peek at the Governator!!!), through Nevada to Utah, go to Moab, visit Arches, then west on I-70 to Denver, up to I-80 and boogie east to I-90 through NY and home.

So, if anybody along that route would be willing to have us call ya in case we need a garage/tools for some reason I’d love to get yer phone number. My AAA will tow me 100 miles. We'll have limited toolage with us, what with flying out and all. We'll be leaving Portland on 3/16 or 17. Figure it'll take us 5-6 days to get to Moab.

You can lemme know at kudd@hotmail.com ...phone numbers, if ya think I'm outta my tree, or whatever.

Other than that...yeeehaw!!!

Hey Jibs-

We'll be on RT50, which looks about 50-60 miles south of you. If you'd PM me yer # tho, I'd love to have it just in case. If lifes good, we'll just give ya a yell and say cheers as we boogie on east.

Thx!

Looks like we'll be in good shape as long as any problems that want to happen occur before Reno. After that we're on our own! I forsee no problems tho....we are gonna be in a Subie!

Hitting the highway tomorrow am..thanks to those who offered support!

You got that right turbone. And if ya go south alot of them are FWD. There's at least 4 small used dealers in northern VT that have agents buying for them from the south.

Of course, nobody in their right mind would do what I'm doing for a 15 year old car w/156k on the clock.... but being a subie junkie the "right mind" issue was settled a long time ago! Not to mention the great trip we're gonna have coming home!

Still would like a contact east of the rockies if anybody out there might be willing to lend a garage or a tool or two should the need arise...???

Cheers!

If you happen to check this,

Drive the coast south to Florence....you'll be fed up with the drive by then I guarentee....:) Very Pretty, But very slow...Lots of Twisty Curvy going on....As well as every Tourist From South Cali To Victoria B.C.......Average speed is 35 or so.....:(

If you cut back East At Florence on hwy 126 It brings You right into Eugene, and you are about 2 miles from My door and 10 mins to I-5 again.....From the Coast to Eugene is about a hr drive at Florence.......

Let me know, If you decide this , as Moosens And I both would Love you if you were able to pack him back a set of Old Gen Alloy Rims I've been Selfishly holdig for him....:)

Talk soon, John

Wow... I missed a lot of the last posts. Moosens and Mudrat... I missed the part about the wheels. To be honest, I probably wouldn’t have picked ‘em up anyhow as we were kinda packed with camping gear/warm clothes/cooler etc in case of break down, plus needing room to sleep in car should need arise. Yeah, I know...I suck!

Anyhow...tons of thanks to all of you who offered to help us should the need arise. Car ran like a champ. (Would expect nothing less...it’s a Subie after all!) Nothing like a 4725 mile shakedown cruise!

Went through Moab during the "Jeep Safari". Holey stinkin’ lotta jeeps!! And not a single lifted Subie!! We went to the bottom of the Shafer Trail at Canyonlands in the stocker...only scraped bottom twice! Came back out in a hail storm and never slipped a wheel in that nice red mud. Must be either the AWD works or we didn’t need it!

Only problem we had was the heater fan that worked on it’s own schedule. Kinda sucked, cause it had punched out when we went over Donner Pass in snowstorm, forcing us to press on a little quicker than we had hoped, and then of course was off the clock again during snowstorm in Buffalo. I need to do a search and see if there’s any info about what to target when trying to fix it. I’m guessing a relay. Also need to research the Mobil 1 vs. regular oil issue. I never used M1 but that’s what the guy I bought it from had been using...and I’m due for an oil change.

Anyhow thanks again to all of you!!!
