88xt6joe
What would be the reason for rough idle after my car get warm its a 1.8 w/FI. It seems like everything else is normal starts great and runs good but doesn't like idling when warm. Thanks, Joe
GeneralDisorder
I don't know much about the FI models, but I know that the people here who do will probably need more info - what type of FI do you have? (SPFI, or MPFI). What year is the engine, and what car is it on? GD
88xt6joe
Its a 88 GL wagon 88 model engine w/176,000 miles and I believe it is SPFI but I'm not sure. JL
GeneralDisorder
Have you checked you ECU (under the drivers dash) for error codes? This can help narrow down the problem if the computer has already detected something strange. GD
Skip
Joe, The problem you are having is common on SPFI cars. The IAC (Idle Air Control) valve wants it's shuttle cleaned. They have a tendency to get varnish on them and stick. This control valve is mounted on the front of your throttle body, has a cylinder with wires going to it. It can be removed and cleaned with carb cleaner. Hope this helps
88xt6joe
Thanks, I'll give that a try today. JL
88xt6joe
Think I got it figured out the top of my cover over the spfi was sunk down in and not getting enough air through. I lifed it up and now it seems to be fine. It was down about an inch and half. JL
