I had a Setback,.. But then an Idea!.. MPFI conversion with carb heads??

Recommended Posts

I was considering the carb to spfi conversion, but somebody from ausubaru.com told me that the spfi wasn't released in Aus.

:banghead:

Soooo.... why not drill holes in my carb manifold, just before the heads, put in the mpfi injectors, ecu, fuel pump, disty and adapt the throttle body to where the carb bolted on and presto,.... MPFI:brow:

Has it been done, can it be done, what could be my major setbacks ????????

Thanks for the support,. i cant see why it wouldnt work, it would be the same as the spfi conversion, only with 4 injectors mounted on the ends of the intake and modified to bolt the throttle body and tps onto

(I also can't see why it couldn't be turbo'd):brow:

But I need way more information first, and money

Arent the MPFI injectors mounted at the end of the intake, just above the head,... this is where i was planning to put my injectors, only i will have 2 in each end.

How more comlpex is the MPFI over the SPFI system. Can it be compared to the SPFI in the carb to spfi canversion manual.

Could i use non subaru parts (dont throw rocks at me, i just wanna save money)

see'ing that i need to make up an intake adaptor, could i use a different throttle, ecu, injectors, fuel pump and make them work with the subaru disty?

Is the 87> system much more comlpex, wouldn't elect controlled spark be better,.. better advance curves???

These are the parts needed for the spfi conversion (i assume the MPFi will be the same, only with 4 injectors)

ECM

Wiring harness

Ignition and fuel pump relays

Fuel pump

intake manifold

MAF

Coil and disty

O2 sensor

Anything I have missed out???

With the 85-87 set up, it wont matter so much how the injectors are mounted (not so much as in the later ones, anyway). You will want to find some pics of where they are normally mounted, and mount them in a similar place. The angle is quite important. I think its about 20 degrees or so to the direction of flow, but again, have a look at how they are mounted on the real thing, and copy it.

I could sell you my SPFI conversion stuff that I have collected for my EA81 spfi conversion- (manifold, ECU, wire miniharness (needs to be made into a harness and I have the diagram) and a disty (needs to be modified for ea81)

i dont know if shipping would be too bad for an intake and things...
