wheres your EA81's power band?

Recommended Posts

Ok. EA81 owners, I would like you too tell me when your car really picks up, and what mods (if any) has it got.

My EA81 (check sig for whats it got) seems to hit the real power at about 3200RPM. I'm wondering if getting a stock cam, or a low end power one would be worth while.

I want lots of power around 1500 to 2500RPM.

Thanks!

I have an aftermarket cam, but no clue which one, wish I knew. I also have the stock carb (hitachi) still. Once I get off idle it starts to pull, but not well till about 2500 or so. However, I still have tons of power down low (right off idle) for pushing/pulling etc. It just doesnt accelerate quickly that low. probably cause I have it overloaded and I have 217k original miles on the 3AT.

to the person that said cams (plural) was that a mistake or do you have an EA82 to compare with the EA81 question? No offense intended, just curious.

a brat cam is supposed to help with low end torque. i know my brat would beat my ea82, that supposedly had 30 more hp.

you need a brat cam, and more compression!. compression is the best low end power gain you can do. other than cubic inches.

is a brat cam some different sort of cam, or does it come in every brat EA81 engine? What about the delta cam ? What do they do to the power and power band?

I heard of someone using EA82 rally pistons that were 4mm longer then the normal EA81's. Are these common to find? Or what other way should I go about upping my compression?

I'll look into the disty stuff too. My ute spins the front wheels on the road alot, but it just lacks the power to pull over big rocks and up steep and ruff tracks. I'm not to fussed on the power up high. It is a pickup after all!! I would really like to drive a stock brat, but I'd have to pretend I wanted to buy it, not to good at lying...

I have a 92 Loyalle, so it might not help.......but, my powerbands are on the passenger side right below the resevoir for the blinker fluid.

I just upgraded to the bright yellow power bands and seemed to have gained about 10 horses. Keep em tensioned right and they will be no problem for years. Check tension at the same interval you grease the muffler bearings.

hmm.. is it really that bad? It's the second most powerful car I've driven.

1st 88 Ford Telstar 2.2 Turbo

2nd 89 Subaru Brumby (with mods)

3rd 90 Nissan Pintara

4th 85 Ford Telstar 2.0

5th ?83? Suzuki 550cc hatch

MmmMMMmmm I love the sound of my Brumby the most tho, 2" makes it soo much better. Apart from the half striped exhust head bolts that make me scared to titen the bolts up.
