Slegacy96
Who new that the 97 through 99 Legacys were so popular. I search autotrader daily and find one that is actually a 5 spd about every two weeks. But everytime I attempt to go buy one its sold before I get there. I drove 40 miles once only to hear that I was 10 minutes too late. So if theyre not in PA, is there anywhere nearby that has an excess of these cars? bagtagley
I spent 3 months trying to find a Legacy GT Wagon w/ a standard trans. I finally found it on ebay of all places. The transaction was smooth as butter, and the guy let me test drive the car before I paid up. Might be worth a shot. Coincidentally, the guy was in Pittsburgh. Martinjmpr
It's a bit of a distance, but there are about a million of them in Colorado. The nice thing is that they won't be all rusted because we don't use salt on the highways out here. Last week I went to Daytona Beach, FL, and was surprised at how few Subarus I saw once I got outside the Rocky Mountain region.

mtsmiths
Watch the bay of e, and see how many Subarus turn up cheap in Florida. Most are automatics tho, 'cause it's geezers retiring and realizing they no longer need AWD. AWD 'Roos are also really expensive in Montana, I had to go to Chicago to get a reasonable deal (found it on this board). It came with a minimum of salt damage. My next door neighbor offered me two grand over what I paid for it the day I got it home.
Urban Coyote
I feel you pain, I really do. I'm in exactly the same boat right now. I'm looking for a 2.2L, manual, impreza or legacy and am having very little success in my search. I'm in Nova Svotia and there are Subarus all over the place...but very few 2.2L come up for sale, and even fewer are manuals. Many of the ones that do are starting to have rust issues or are very high mileage. I'm actually considering searching in Maine as some family members are going down that way and said they would look around for me. All I can say is keep you chin up, eyes open and move quickly when you see something Cheers, Urban Coyote

Lesbaru
I searched and searched for a 2.2 MT, and finally bought mine from a board member (Scott in New York). If/when I decide to sell my Legacy wagon I will try to sell her on the board FIRST. Besides, she already has two (count 'em TWO) USMB bumperstickers and I have to sell to someone who can appreciate that... hee hee. (I hate to admit it... but tomorrow I'm going to look at Jetta wagon TDI and Golf hatchback TDI before they get the drive-by-wire 2006's in. Have this great dream of running biodiesel and getting 54 mpg like my sister in law does with her Jetta.) Kaja
medfurd
What is so special about the 97-99 Legacies? Are those the years they made the special edition ones? B/c I thought 95-99 were the years for that body style. And the Legacy 2.5GT from those years, is that turbo or not?

Well I like the bodystyle and interior alot! The 97 - 99s offer the 2.5L engine with 5 speed transmission. 1996 was the first year but only automatics were produced. I also cant afford anything newer.
medfurd
Thanks! I saw a nice red 2.5GT wagon pass me today, with those BBS look-alike wheels and the hood scoop! It was sweet.
